Reset Oil Change Light – 2001 Chevy Suburban

Question:

How can they call it an oil monitor if you have to reset it when you change the oil. If it indeed actually monitor the oil, it would know that there is new oil in in after an oil change. Those are just my two cents, for what it worth. But if you change the oil before the light comes on, you still must reset it correct??? Andy Beals 2000 GMC ext. Cab Z-71 1999 GMC Yukon

Response:

It doesn’t monitor the oil (There is a separate sensor for oil pressure, or lack thereof).  What it is monitoring is engine RPMs, hours, mileage, and maybe some other stuff.  It calculates when to change the oil based on all these factors.  If you read the owners manual, it will tell you that YOU need to factor in things such as dusty environment, towing, etc. and change the oil sooner if needed.   Since mine rarely sees any heavy duty, and no dusty conditions, I rely on it. Averaging ~5000 for oil changes.  I expect it to illuminate any time now. John

On most GM’s there is a reset oil button on the fuse panel. On the Olds Alero, Malibu,Grand Am I believe that its on the fuse panel at the drivers end of the dash. I would imagine that a similar location is used for Chevy truck. Hope this is of help.

If it is, I haven’t been able to find it! In any case, when I went out to lunch, the message was no longer displaying.  I guess the procedure I used actually worked. Thanks anyway! —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–==  Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–
