Duramax Suburban/Yukon XL

Question:

Hi. Does anyone have real info. on availability of the Isuzu diesel in the Sub/Yukon? I would imagine the one ton trucks get first crack at this motor, with the lightweights to follow. Is this the same motor in the cab-forward city trucks? I hear you will be able to buy a "long" Denali, i.e. Suburban-sized, in addition to Tahoe-sized. I doubt the diesel will be available there.

Response:

You CAN buy a Yukon Denali XL, Motor Trend tested it for the SUV of the year award.    Not sure about availability of the Duramax in the Yukon/Yukon XL though.  It is not the same engine as is used in the cab-forward city trucks, it’s an all-new engine… > Hi. The Yukon XL/Suburban get the Duramax in–I believe–2003 model year. That news was in Truck Trend or some other wrap that I read about two weeks ago….

Response:

All the info I got at my shop ,medium duty GMC, implicates that there will be more power than the Dodge Cummins and the Ford Powerstroke.  Should be out in 2001 spring.  Even the medium duty line is getting a new diesel.  It seems Caterpillar can’t keep up with GM’s demand for the 3126 so they are going to use an inline 6 from Izuzu.  Should be a good engine.  I bet they will have a higher RPM range also. Mark

Response:

Any vehicle that gets the Duramax but cannot get the Allison transmission due to space constraints (G-vans, Suburbans, etc.) will get the de-rated 210hp version of the engine.  Some of the medium duties (starting in 2002-3) will have the Duramax (LB7), and there is also an inline six cylinder Isuzu coming out (the LB6) for medium duties. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi. Response:

Not arguing, but my info had the 4L80E tranny equipped Duramax at 250 HP. Know anything else? jed
