2000 Tahoe Questions

Question:

Four Wheeler magazine awarded Tahoe Z71 for wheeler of the year. There is some interesting info on the other 5 contestants. This is out of the February 2000 issue of Four Wheeler magazine. Does anyone know if the 2000 Yukon with the Z71 off road package is the same as the Tahoe Z71?? Before you buy.

Response:

Sounds as if it is getting more and more difficult to order/build/buy exactly what you want. Big change from last year.  If it’s not on the lot, any suggestions? Ken and I were discussing the dealerships that we each work at.  Mine is a Chevy only.  I’ve seen the Yukons and Denalis around at the GMC and Caddy dealer, but we just started to get ours. Response:

Yeah, even though my company sells GMC, (dif. store) I didn’t realize that for 2000 the Yukon "XL" is apparently the GMC Suburban equivalent.  The Chevy’s haven’t been delivered yet, just not starting to be. Ken.

I have not seen where On Star is standard with the LT package. Here are most of my questions about the ‘00 Tahoe: If I get the sunroof does the climate control system remain for the driver and front passenger? With the addition of a sunroof is there ANY rear heat or A/C control? Does the 3rd row seat come out in two halves?  Is it easy to remove?  I hear it’s on wheels or some such. Can the second row be folded flat (or significantly out-of-the-way) to increase cargo space? Are the 5.7L engines planned to be available on the new-style Tahoe? Are there different trailering options?  I want to be able to specify that beyond the standard hitch receiver I also want the transmission and oil coolers. Is there any way to get the 2-tone leather seats of the Z71 in the ‘00 LT? Chevy’s web site says, "Tahoe LT and Z71 include a standard OnStar service," and a footnote that says, "One-year safety and security contract standard on Tahoe LT."  A local dealer told me this is wrong and that Chevy couldn’t make a buyer purchase a system that would later require paying for a subscription.  Any ideas? >I saw another thread that you were on about the sunroof interfering >with the duct work for the rear climate control system.  That still >implies that the climate control for driver and front passenger is left >intact even when a sunroof is added, correct?

The sunroof installation was on the older(pre ‘00)truck.  They cut the roof console right behind the front controls, removed the garage opener holder, the sunglass pocket, and the tissue dispenser.  Put a piece of something covered with materiel to match the headliner over the raw ends and glued the controls back to the headliner in front of the sunroof.  Like I said, it looked ok…for a few months until the adhesive began to fail. As far as the 7.4L,  that’s a 454 in metric.  We got a few early ‘00 Subs that were the older body style, with the older engines.  We are now receiving the new body style ’00’s with the new engine choices. Hey, Ken.  What do you think of the 3rd row seating in the Tahoe? Not for those of us with "portly" build :-) . Big Daddy ICQ#6342575 ASE Master Auto Technition Chevrolet Certified Master Tech. Actually, you’re mistaken on the early ‘00 Subs.  You’re thinking of the Tahoes (though they don’t come with 454’s).  The burbs haven’t been released for 2000 yet.  Probably won’t see one until mid-end of March if then.  They will be new body style.  They produced Tahoes for 2000 that were identical to 99’s with the exception of some added toys (brush guard, Z71 badging, fog lamps, two tone leather).  I agree with you on the 3rd seat.  I’m glad they finally have one and I don’t know how they could have done it better, but I’m not huge (6′0, 185lbs) and I don’t want to go back there. Thanks for the response.  I haven’t even heard of the 7.4L engine. Sounds like something for the Suburban.  And there’s also a 6.0L engine?  Geez, I’m really behind.  I was able to find a few more tidbits on Chevy’s web site.  Are both of these engines all new? I’ve been to a couple of local dealers (I’m in Seattle) and they all seem to be terribly underinformed.  One of the dealers told me that none of the new Tahoes will have the 5.7L engine for about 2 months. He had no reason why.  I’m a bit frustrated with the dealers, in general, because they don’t have brochures, they don’t know how much various options are, and they say that their computer system won’t even currently allow them to custom order a new Tahoe.  Ugh. I saw another thread that you were on about the sunroof interfering with the duct work for the rear climate control system.  That still implies that the climate control for driver and front passenger is left intact even when a sunroof is added, correct? The engine options for Tahoe are as follows: 4.8 V-8 and 5.3 V-8.  There is no 6.0 or 7.4 for Tahoe and no 3/4 ton option.   The Suburban has a standard 5.3 and can get the 6.0 in the 3/4 ton.  I don’t believe they will have the 7.4 in any of them.  This is the big block 454 that is used in 3/4 and 1 ton Silv’s and I don’t recall any info that it will be available in the 2000 Burbs.  No V-6 available.  So basically, with the new model you can have either 4.8 (270 HP) or 5.3 (285 HP) no other choices. Ken.

I’m interested in a black 2000 Tahoe with LT decor, the heavy duty trailering package, third row seating, and the comfort & convenience package. Here are my questions. Some places say the 5.3L engine is the bigger of the two offered V8’s while other web sites talk about a 5.7L engine.  Which comes with which trim line?  What are the major (or interesting) differences between the ’99’s and the ’00’s?  Any place on the web where I can read about this? I’ve found quite a bit about the Z71 and a bit less about the other models. Any help is much appreciated. -Jeff Unrue * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Well, there are actually 2 different ‘00 Tahoes.  The old "carryover" body style avaliable with the 5.0 or 5.7 v-8’s and maybe the 7.4(not sure about that) The new "Silvarado" style Tahoe has either a 4.8 or a 5.3 v-8  not sure if it’s availabe with a v-6 or the 6.0 in a 3/4 ton model. There are 2 2000 Tahoe’s.  One is an old body style in either the Z71 (4X4) or Limited (4X2) model.  Those both come with 5.7L.  That’s basically the same truck as the 99’s with a few cosmetic changes to differentiate it.  The new 2000’s are based on the Silverado’s and have a 4.8L and 5.3L engine options.  You can’t get 3rd row seating unless you get the new body style. Post your specific questions and I’d be glad to answer them for you. Ken.
