Swapping out an automatic for a stick
Question:
Yes, possible but not very practical. There are many items to consider, Clutch pedal, related mounta and linkage, Shift linkage, including steering column, computer controls. These are the large items, many other smaller things will show up during the change. It is more practical to trade the vehicle off on one with the options you prefer. If that thing never came with a stick, putting one in will be a major problem as there is probably no mounting points for the parts for a stick. That means a lot of work. — Bob May Don’t subscribe to ACCESS1 for your webserver for the low prices. The service has been lousy and has been poor for the last year. Bob May

I’m familiar with that vehicle. It’s a bolt-in job. Just find one at a junkyard with a 5 speed & get all of the parts. >That means a lot of work.

The On board computer will be looking for sensors from the old automatic and will be looking for solenoids to control. You’ll have to change the on board computer from a truck that had a stick. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->If that thing never came with a stick, >putting one in will be a major problem as >there is probably no mounting points for >the parts for a stick. > I’m familiar with that vehicle. Before you buy.

How about doing the swap on a 1993 Chevy Z24 ? They both come 5spd and auto, and there are a lot of spare parts for them on scrapyards…

I didn’t. I just used some wire ties to secure the wires out of the way. The connectors seemed to tailor the transmission performance to the engine conditions. It runs fine disconnected.
