Opinions wanted – Tires

Question:

11/15/99 Looking for your opinions on tires. Want to put new rubber on a ‘96 Mercury Sable, Car has all sorts of goodies, but need to tie it to the ground. Want wet weather traction, and quick steering response. Michelin?  Dunlop?  Goodyear? Dunlop SO-2. Excellent tyre. But expensive….

Response:

Michelin or BF Goodrich. Don’t even consider Goodyear. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > 11/15/99 > Looking for your opinions on tires. > Want to put new rubber on a ‘96 Mercury Sable, > Car has all sorts of goodies, but need to tie it to the ground. > Want wet weather traction, and quick steering response. > Michelin?  Dunlop?  Goodyear?

Response:

Goodyear best tire for the money. says… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Michelin or BF Goodrich. > Don’t even consider Goodyear. > 11/15/99 > Looking for your opinions on tires. > Want to put new rubber on a ‘96 Mercury Sable, > Car has all sorts of goodies, but need to tie it to the ground. > Want wet weather traction, and quick steering response. > Michelin?  Dunlop?  Goodyear?

Response:

Poor treadwear.  Poor snow and rain performance. Loud roadnoise.  Squeel when cornering.  Goodyear is the worst tire for the money. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Goodyear best tire for the money.

Amen.  How about Cooper?  Works for me! <http://www.coopertires.com/>

Response:

gotta disagree with you there…i’ve got goodyears on my subaru….seem to be wearing fine, they’re quiet even when cornering faster than i probably should be in a station wagon….and as far as rain and snow, i didn’t have any problems getting anywhere last winter in the snow, even driving 30+ miles to work, and playing on some back mountain roads.

On your Subaru ?   Enough said.

Poor advice. OE tires are always cheap.  Exceptions would be what comes with a Corvette, however.

Never owned Goodyear have you. Running wranglers on my 2000 Silverado LT extended cab and don’t experience any of the above.

Response:

Excellent on my Bonneville.  Plan to replace at 60k miles with same.

I Agree. Michelin/BF Goodrich are the best tires money can buy, PERIOD!! I never cut corners when it comes to tires. Oops, no pun intended. BTW, they are the same tire. The French company Michelin also owns and manufactures tires under the BF Goodrich label.

Non sense. I suppose the next thing your going to tell me is that the set of General tires that came standard on my Sonoma are better than $85 a piece Michelins’. The only thing relevant as far as replaceing OEM tires is the sizing.

Response:

Try a set of Michelin X-One’s …  especially if you live in snowy or rainy regions. Goodyears are "good enough" … but you never know what’s better unless you are willing to try something different. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Excellent on my Bonneville.  Plan to replace at 60k miles with same.

Response:

I had OE Goodyears (Invicta GS) on my 93 Beretta.  They went 77,000 miles….of course I kept them aired up and rotated….I went to replace them, but at $90 per tire I went with Big O.  I was very satisfied with them, too….free balance and rotation for life, free road hazard replacement  (NO proration as long as there is 1/16 tread left)! So long….
