Gm turn signal alarm
Question:
I have heard of several GM cars that had a turn signal alarm on them. These were original equipment on those cars. If the turn signal was forgotten for a time, the alarm would sound, ramping up from soft to very loud. It would shut off on turning off the turn signal. Does anyone know anything about these alarms? Are they a separate unit on the car or are the integral to the turn signal circuitry on the cars that have them? Paul in Portland OR

Paul, I can give some detail on the turn signal reminder on the following trucks: 1998-present S-10, Blazer, Bravada, Jimmy, Envoy, Sonoma, etc. 1999-present (new style) Sierra, Silverado 2000-present (new style) Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Yukon XL If the turn signal has been on and you’ve travelled 0.75 miles, the chime starts going in sync with the turn signal. There is no ramp up on these models. This is performed as part of the body control module (BCM) functions. Hope that helps…

The 1992 Cutlass Ciera has this too. It’s part of the convenience center, and must have the same chime as when the door is open, etc. It’s triggered by distance travelled. A good feature, for the blue hairs that buy that car. Ramping up?!?!?! Imagine the terror!

The first one that I ran into was on a Cutlass Ciera that a friend of mine had as a company car. I’ve got news for you. There are just as many younger drivers that forget to cancel their signals as there are older ones. Frankly, I would like to see this on all cars. Paul in Portland OR

I had an ‘88 Custom Cruiser that had that feature. It was kind of confusing, as it was the same as the ‘key in the ignition’ chime. I reneted a Buick LeSabre that had this feature, and it is also on my 2000 Impala. I think it turns on after about half a mile if the turn signal is left blinking. My 1991 Cutlass Cruiser S has all the bells & whistles including this alarm. Per the owner’s manual it activates when the TS has been flashing for one mile. I’d never heard of it. First time it went off I was expecting the car to blow up anytime! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I reneted a Buick LeSabre that had this feature, and it is also on my 2000 > Impala.
