94 s-10 a/c problem

Question:

Thanks for the information. im gonna give it a look at tommorow. rokker

Response:

Before trying in the dash, look under the hood, near the front of the fuel injection/throttle body equipment. My 95 S-10 did the same thing, and their was a vacuum line off under the hood. Mine was very easy to spot, and comes off quiet often, until I fixed it.

I had the same problem with my ‘94 Sonoma. I found the vacuum line had melted where it runs parallel to the firewall and for some odd reason it had been resting on top of the valve cover. B.J. Response:

and….it could be the source vacuum too. If the other doors work, like bi-level, then it’s local to the air/heat, If it doesn’t then the source vaccum line needs to be found.                                                 mH – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > The vacuum actuator under the center dash controls the door. Response:

Greetings, I had a similar problem in a Mercury; it was a detached vacuum line from the vacuum switch.  Merc uses engine vacuum to operate a damper that changes where the air blows.  My Chevy has one too but I’ve had no occasion to fiddle with it.  When I move the switch from "defrost" to some other position, I momentarily hear a hissing sound while the damper moves.  If you don’t hear it, you might look for a detach hose either under the dash near the switch and around the engine.  It’ll be a small one, 1/8 – 1/4 inch, I think. Good luck, – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have a 94 chevy s-10, 4 cyl,, 5 speed. > The problem I have is no matter what you have the vent set at > the air always flows throgh the defroster. > Does anybody here know how to fix this problem. > thanx > rokker > remove "fryspam" from email for true email address

Response:

The vacuum actuator under the center dash controls the door. Most likey the top one may be leaking.  Either the hose popped off the fitting or the internal rubber diaphram has a hole in it. You can test it by setting the controls for vent or normal/max air, then push in on the linkage, this will open the door for the vent bypass, if it stays open then I’d say the diaphram is the problem.  If it closes again then you have a vacuum leak elsewhere.  It may be at the actuator, the hose to the conrol switch, or the switch.  The setting for defroster is a default when there is a leak in the system, they figure you will at least have a way to heat and clear your windshield.                                         mH – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have a 94 chevy s-10, 4 cyl,, 5 speed. > The problem I have is no matter what you have the vent set at > the air always flows throgh the defroster. > Does anybody here know how to fix this problem. > thanx > rokker > remove "fryspam" from email for true email address
