Pic, Yep, that’s your A/C clutch kicking in. The compressor will cycle in defrost mode regardless of climate control temperature setting. Hot or cold, she’ll cycle to keep the air nice and dry. I believe 1994 was the last year for R-12. You can still get your system serviced with R-12 at a licensed garage, you just can’t buy it as a consumer without a commercial refrigerant license. I retro-fitted my 88′ Sierra for R-134a a few years back (new accumulator, new seals, new expansion valve and high-pressure cut-off switch, system flush and new compresor oil) and she runs 42* in 90* weather. If you do the conversion right she’ll blow nice and cold with the new R-134a. Doc
