Two questions

Question:

> > 1. I’m looking at buying a new truck and would like to have some input on > the stepside beds. They appear to have >     fiberglass fenders in the rear. Has anybody had problems with these or > should I stay clear of the stepside.

My 03 Sierra Denali has plastic side panels/fenders on the rear. It’s not a step-side in the usual sense; it has a full size bed but the fenders have to extend farther out than a normal Sierra to accomodate the 4 wheel steering, so it has wheel-well bulges like a stepside. No issues at all, except I find that I get bug splatters on the rear fender, something that never happened on my normal fleetside GMCs. I haven’t had it long enough to be sure that rocks won’t kick up and damage that fender as more time/miles go by. HMc

Response:

I have a 89 Chevy Sport Side with 225,000 miles on it, and have not had any issues with the fiberglass fenders…the bed itself is steel an no issues their either.  all in all the body as a whole has held up remarkably well.  best of all?  2 less pieces to worry about rust! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Derek, >Semis have many fiberglass parts on them.  The bunk and cab are often >aluminum, but the hoods and fenders are often times glass (Peterbilt still >uses an aluminum hood on their 379).  They see more road use and harsh >conditions in a year than most of our trucks will see in the whole time we >own them. >Snowman > I have a ‘93 4×4 step-side and the fenders are metal, but who knows what > they’ve done in later models.  I wouldn’t think it would be a great idea >to > use fiberglass in situations where huge rocks will be flung up from >off-road > use! > I also have a 5.7 liter, but a guy I work with has the 5.3 in his Tahoe >and > it blow my doors off!  As for holding up, it’s probably too early to tell, > but the power is definitely there! > -Derek > > 1. Response:

1. I’m looking at buying a new truck and would like to have some input on the stepside beds. They appear to have     fiberglass fenders in the rear. Has anybody had problems with these or should I stay clear of the stepside. 2. I now have the 5.7 in my 1991 Z71 that I bought new and have 281,000 miles on it without any problems with the motor.     My question is how is the 5.3 holding up and how many miles can I expect with it. Thanks Jeff

Response:

I have a ‘93 4×4 step-side and the fenders are metal, but who knows what they’ve done in later models.  I wouldn’t think it would be a great idea to use fiberglass in situations where huge rocks will be flung up from off-road use! I also have a 5.7 liter, but a guy I work with has the 5.3 in his Tahoe and it blow my doors off!  As for holding up, it’s probably too early to tell, but the power is definitely there! -Derek

Response:

Derek, Semis have many fiberglass parts on them.  The bunk and cab are often aluminum, but the hoods and fenders are often times glass (Peterbilt still uses an aluminum hood on their 379).  They see more road use and harsh conditions in a year than most of our trucks will see in the whole time we own them. Hi there.. Thanks to everyone who replied on my previous post about Benzoyl Peroxide and Retin-A… I’ve got 2 more questions, again, any possible advice is much appreciated :) I’ve heard about salicylic acid (unsure of spelling) as being helpful against the formation of spots, but I haven’t a clue what products contain it.  Can anyone recommend any readily-available products in the UK that contain this? Secondly, can anyone recommend a good non-comedogenic moisturiser? Many thanks, Peter

Response:

cleansers in the "acne" section of your pharmacy will have it. Most cleaners for acne prone skin will have salicylic acid. I dont know if this is in the UK, but Neutrogena acne cleansers, and "Clean&Clear" brand from Johnson and Johnson brand has it too. Also, look for cleaners that hae "Beta Hydroxy", because that is just another name for Salicylic acid.

Hi Gary…Welcome to the group. I get the bladder infections, but the cultures do come out positive, unlike yours. I have learned over the years that this disease can cause soooo many other little (sometimes big) side things to go on too, especially with inflammation. As far as the weight goes….I am now on prednisone, so keeping weight on is not a problem. And when not on it, I just make sure I get my carbs and protein to try to help me from loosing too much. But there are always those times that no matter what I do or eat, nothing will put weight on me. Personally that is just the nature of the disease for me. I hope you find the answers you need, and that you are feeling good. Again, welcome to the group…this is a great place to be with alot of support and fun too :-) Lisa :-)

Response:

Have your drs done blood tests for mal absorptions and arthritis? I am talking about the vampire taking what seems to be all your blood 6-8 vials. I found that this helped with finding out about a lot of mal absorptions for me which helps to correct and help the bladder pressure.  Also I found that arthritis has attacked my lower back and the sacrialiac (sp) joint to which this Thursday I am getting a shot to see if they can get the inflamation out.  Also, to help relieve the pressure when you go to the bathroom next time have a fresh towel rolled up and push it into your tummy and bend downward and push to help evacuate your bladder to see if you can get it empty so the feelings come back to normal.  This works really good but it takes a while if your bladder is kind of numb feeling.  UM MOM Susan

Hello everyone!  I am new to this group… just started reading it tonight and I’ve alredy gotten some great information.  I’ve was diagnosed with Crohn’s in 1986 but have had problems since I was a teenager.  I’m now 40. I have two queries: 1) Lately, I’ve found the prior to a flare I have bladder-infection-like symptoms… pressure in the lower abdomen, urge to urinate often, slight stinging.  Every time I have the symptoms, I go to my Primary Care Dr. for a culture and or course, it’s always negative.  I’ve also been to a Urologist and to my G.E. but nobody knows what’s going on/  These symptoms tend to last 3-5 days and then slowly subside while the flare picks up.  So I’m wondering if these symptoms ring true with anyone else?  I’m starting to wonder whether it has to do with the gas/pressure build-up in the section of the intestine that passes closest to the bladder causing undo pressure on the bladder. 2) Activity has been pretty high lately and am having a tough time keeping my weight on.  I’m already pretty thin (6 feet, 145 lbs normally, 140 lbs now) so I want to try to get some weight back on while not inflaming things any more than they are.  I’m wondering what others have done to help maintain weight.  I’m currently trying a high-protein powder but haven’t noticed any change… but fortunately it also doesn’t seem to be causing any intensified symptoms. I’m currently taking Entocort (9 Mg) and Immuran (150 Mg) each day.  I have an occasional Remicade infusion, but it’s been a year since the last and my G.E. has been hesitant to prescribe more, although I think cost is his primary reason :-(  Have also taken both Asacol and Azulfadine, but unfortunatly seem to build up an intolerance to both after about 3 months. Thanks again to all of you for the info that’s already in this group and in advance to any help you might be able to provide for my questions. -Gary

Hiya gang! Alrighty I have two questions. And I know someone can answer them! #1. This is regarding my Grandmother. She is 68 years old and the most stubborn person I have ever met before in my entire life. Several years ago, she had trigger finger in the middle finger of her right hand. Never saw a dr about it, well now it is fixed in that position. She showed me today where the tendon is raised alot on the palm of her hand. It appears very tight, swollen and painful(but she says it doesnt hurt) My concern is that this tendon is on the verge of rupturing. Am I rightfully concerned? She flat out refuses to go see a dr about it. She is such a brat!!!!! #2. This is regarding me. I have read that the joints on the end of the fingers are rarely involved in RA. I have two fingers where those joints are definelty changing. They are enlarged, even when not swollen. Is this from RA? Thats all my questions for today! Keep Smilin’ ~krissy "The most thoroughly wasted of all days is that  in which one has not laughed." Nicolas Chamfort

Response:

Hi Krissy:  I always enjoy your posts.  Since I also am an older brat, I will respond to your questions.  #1 I don’t know sicum (sp) about the tendon ruptures. I have one also, didn’t know it was something to worry over. #2 The end joints of the fingers of several people in my family have these, and we always thought it was OA.  They are bent slightly, the joints not the people. Can’t help you with #1, but #2 is familiar. I am also experiencing these changes Krissy.  For a while, when it started, I questioned my diagnosis.  But, both drdoc and Dr. Susan assured me that this does happen in RA – I believe they said 30% of RA patients have involvement in these joints. My RD was skeptical at first and looked for some other explanation.  Now he agrees that it is the RA.  After arguing about it and disagreeing with drdoc and Dr. Susan two visits ago, last week he looked at them and said, "yes, they are progressing as expected with RA."  I almost hit him!  So, I guess hand surgery will be in my future too, but not soon. It is only a minor annoyance now, compared to my feet, hips, elbow, etc…… Walt

Krissy      I had implants put in my left hand a couple of years go. Am not satisfied with them at all. My right hand is worse than the left was. All the fingers except my index hang down and I have very little control over them. I guess what they will do (no implants) is clean out around my nuckles and do whatever they have to do to the tendons to realign or tighten them. I still have to meet the surgeon. Got any advice. ~~~Kenny~~~

It is only a minor annoyance now, compared to my feet, hips, elbow, etc…… Walt

l. Has anyone ever seen any information on the number of lawyers on Starr’s team? Who are they? How they got their jobs? How much do they make? etc etc…I have never seen any bios on them and since it seems Starr was not truly a hands -on-manager…seems like these lawyers must be doing the big part of the job. Closest I have heard of them is when Leslie Stahl interviewed Starr and talked to the ones who went to the WH to tape Clinton…IMO..they looked like young yuppies! 2. Does anyone know anything about the big Dem party donor who got the job for Monica in the WH? Was he a Clinton Democrat and who is he? Funny about the info that the Press misses… I can’t be the only one who wonders about these things!!!  CJ

Not all members of Starr’s staff have been documented in the Press, but some number have. There is a particularly nasty son of a bitch named Ewing I believe who Starr picked up in the Memphis US prosecutor’s office. The New Yorker has been good reporting this, especially in regard to Susan McDougal. As for the Dem party donor, he’s a Dem party donor, Hollywood I think, and as I recall the boyfriend of Lewinsky’s mother, but I might be misremembering. In any case, the guy was documented. The NY Times was good here. Just because you missed it, or didn’t pay attention, does not mean the Press has not been doing its job. It takes two — one to report, the other to read. When the Press has been reporting but you haven’t been reading, fairness demands that you knock yourself, not the Press. To make this complete, in this newsgroup I’m one of the harder critics of the Press. — Homines id quod volunt credunt.

Seventy two, last I heard, plus all the FBI and private investigators that he needs. — EAH      Otium cum dignitate

Thanks for the answers. This question of who really earned all the money spent on this investigation has interested me for several months (as an  old retired investigative reporter who never lost his curiosity!).. It seemed that each time a new part of the investigation..starting with the book store scenario….. came up a new lawyer’s name appeared.Yet..the reference to him would only say .."a member of Starr’s team or something like that.." Now. this Blaly is appearing as Starr’s spokesman and nobody gives him any  more identity than that! After doing some serious research on who they all were…reading daily NYT, Washington Post,,, Chi Tribune (because Starr,Marcus,Hyde, the House Judiciary Repub Lawyer have ties in Chicago law firms and Hyde in DePage )..Wall Street Journal etc etc and many mags/columnists…scouring the internet, I found very little about them..only a few with bios. (One of the best investigative pieces IMO is the recent one in the NYT about How It All Started…a great read!) 2) No, the man who married Monica’s mother is NOT the man who got Monica the job.  CJ
