** Silverado/Sierra2000 – What's the story? **

The GMT-800 IS the new style, it’s GM’s designation for the generation of chassis. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> The GMT-800 variant to replace the older GMT 400 series of 1-ton models > is just about to start production. Response:
The 7200lb version was a 2500, 2wd with 5.3L/Automatic only. The same drivetrain was available in an 8600lb version. I don’t know the reason for its existence, but GM dropped it for the 2001 model year. Is the current 2500 series 4×4 still going to be available as a Light Duty 3/4 ton? Or is it going to be phased out and replaced with the HD Series? If so then the current 2500 has had a very short life.
Response:
For those of us who have not ever heard the series numbers, here is an easier answer. Yes, GM will be producing a "heavy duty" truck style similar to the Super Duty Ford has. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> The GMT-800 variant to replace the older GMT 400 series of 1-ton models > is just about to start production. The current 2500 will remain available as a light/medium duty truck, even when the HD 2500 finally is available. BOB * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

It will be available at least for the 2001 model year. The 7200lb (light 3/4 ton) will be dropped. I suspect they will drop the 2500s for 2002 and only have the 2500HD. That is just what Ford did, and GM tends to follow the competition. Mike L 99 Silverado 1500 Base 4×4 4.8L 5spd 00 Silverado 2500 LS 4×4 6.0L 5spd Deadhorse, Alaska 6-6-99 Before you buy.

What is the light 3/4 ton? A Silverado 1500 with HD suspension? The C/K chassis 3/4 ton? or the Silverado 2500? >I suspect they will drop the 2500s for 2002 and only have the 2500HD. >That is just what Ford did, and GM tends to follow the competition.
Ford sort of rebadged it as the "7700" F-150 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Mike L >99 Silverado 1500 Base 4×4 4.8L 5spd >00 Silverado 2500 LS 4×4 6.0L 5spd >Deadhorse, Alaska 6-6-99 >Before you buy.

The GMT-800 variant to replace the older GMT 400 series of 1-ton models is just about to start production. (Flint, Michigan) By mid-2001 model year, there will be no remaining GMT 400 series vehicles still being assembled.

Is this new GMT-800 variant bodystyle you speak of derived from the lighter-duty new-for-2000 Silverado/Sierra, or will it be a derivative of the existing "old" C/K, or will it be a new variety distinct from the other two? Are there any images of the web of this new truck?

I noticed while browsing through the online Chevy/GMC pickup truck literature that the new-for-2000 Silverado/Sierra pickups are all in the under-8,600 lb. GVWR (gross vehicle weight ratio) class. The old C/K bodystyle, on the market since 1987, appears to be offered for over-8,800 lb. GVWR class. 1: Does this mean that GM is positioning its Silverado/Sierra2000 pickups to strictly compete against the light-duty (non-Super Duty) Ford F-150 and F-250? 2: Does this then logically mean that there is no "Super Duty" (over-8800 lb. GVWR) version of the Silverado/Sierra2000 bodystyle in the pipeline for 2001 or later? 3: Will the old C/K bodystyle continue as GM’s competition against Ford’s F-250+ Super Duty line of trucks, or is the C/K due to be replaced by yet another new bodystyle? Any ideas?
