I have the clunk in mine too, I have a 2000 gmc sierra four door, the clunk is annoying, at first I thought it was the brake pads releasing, but something tells me its the lock in the rear end, I was told it is like a disc clutch. I gota get it checked out soon with only 20000 Km’s on it.
Response:
My 97 does it to i think it is in the rear end also dealer says it is normal but everyone that i have talked to says it is the rear end. Go to www.partsmike.com and post it attn Russ he seems to know the problem he helped me out but i never did fix it the thing still clunks almost 30000 miles latter just waiting for the rearend to go out . or the tranny

The issue is that accessory power is maintained for a time period after the ignition is shut off. Since the referenced items run off accessory power there really isn’t a simple way to eliminate the noise other than turning the radio up. -Chris

Live with it or get a new truck. It’ll never go away. I’ve had a 1988 and 1998 and they both had clinks and clunks. I figured the problem would of been fixed when i got my 1999. For 31 grand this friggin’ truck should have no clunks especially with only 50,000 miles. The dealer says its ok.
Response:

Response:
Yup, I got a problem with my 2000 Silverado not too many people have been saying anything about. It turns about like an aircraft carrier! My 88 2500 4×4 with 8 ft bed would out turn this thing!!! Whenever I try to pull in to a parking space (anyone also notice that they’re making the spaces narrower all the time, like just for those iddy-biddy cars?) I have to make two or more swings to line this thing up and pull in. It makes me look like a rookie on his learner’s permit! I know it ain’t me, because I used to be able to pull into my driveway, cut the nose over to my wall, then just back the thing right into the garage with my ‘88. Now, it’s a 3 or 5 point turn! Probably Chevy’s way of avoiding rollovers by limiting the radius of the steering (and lowering the nose so it sits like a 2 wheel drive). Oh, but other than those things, I love it too! ;^ ) GaryG
Anyone one else experience these problems? Or let me know of other problems so i can be prepared for it. Lol. Its too bad for these problems. Otherwise i love this truck. Good power and great gas mileage with a limo ride.

Two things to check. If you have the vent fan on that may be your noise, but more likely its the radio. The factory in dash units in these trucks have a small cooling fan on the amplifier heat sink. Mine make a bit of noise as well, but I only really hear it after shutting of the engine and turning the radio off. — Chris East Fork Super Trucks & Super Rods

If its like mine its the CD player. Seems that about half the time the cd platter motor is on even without a cd in the slot.
