"SECURITY" Light Comes On….

Question:

I own a 1998 GMC Sierra SLE 4×4 Ext. Cab.  Every once in a while, as I am driving at highway speed, the orange SECURITY light comes on, and stays on until I shut down the vehicle.  Then upon restarting the light stays off (until it happens again).  At first I thought that this light acted as the "low fuel" warning, because the first time it came on I was very low on fuel.  But now it happens no matter how much fuel is in the tank.  Any ideas??  What is causing this, and how to fix??? Response:

If I have the engine running and open the driver’s door, the security light comes on. You probably have the driver’s door either partly open, or the switch is mis-adjusted. Next time it happens, stop the truck and open/close the door to see if the light goes out. If the door is shut tightly and the light comes on, visit the dealer (is it still under warranty?) and get them to fix it.
