radio problem

Question:

I just purchased a 1995 Astro which has the factory am/fm cassette w/ equalizer. The problem is that the radio doesn’t retain its memory. I’ve checked the fuse. Does anyone know of a good service manual that would show radio wiring diagrams and how to remove it or any advise ? Thanks, Tom

Response:

Do your courtesy lights work? This is the same fuse used for radio memory. If the fuse is OK check for power to the orange wire at the back of the radio, this is your memory power. Most GM dealers will help you with the wiring schematic and possibly copy the appropriate pages. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >I just purchased a 1995 Astro which has the factory am/fm cassette w/ >equalizer. >The problem is that the radio doesn’t retain its memory. Try pulling both the power and constant power wires.  Maybe this will ‘reset" the head unit? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > 1993 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton Pickup. Most older (97 and back) GM head units have a hard reset on them…now everything seems to go through the security and every other possible electric system possible….the first thing I would try is pulling the fuses…next make sure you dont have a problem with the knob of the radio (out of line or stripped)  if that doesnt work you can pull the unit out and find a reset on it….also make that your speakers are getting proper voltages with a voltmeter (they should all be running the same in the wire) You could have a loose wire or something may have fried out when the battery was replaced (I dont know if it just died or you had problems so depending on the situation this scenario may not be applicable)… good luck dave 2000 alero gls 1992 achieva sc
