New 2003 Silverado

Question:

FYI – My 2002 Silverado was built in Fort Wayne and has been very good so far (17,500miles).

Response:

PAT The new 2003 Consumer Guide Car & Truck Buyers Guide  said the 2003 Silverado, Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe & GMC Yukon  are built in Mexico, USA The 2002 book says Canada. Harryface

Response:

Harry, I live near Oshawa and the Silverado and Sierra are still being built here. I suspect that they continue to be built in a variety of locations. – Pat

2003 Consumer Guide Car & Truck Buyers Guide indicates Caddy Escalade is built in USA. I’ll look on some window stickers this week where there built. Harryface

Response:

Easy way to determine where any new GM car is made:  If the 1st digit of the VIN is 1=US, 2=Canada, 3=Mexico. I know there is a Big SUV plant in Mexico (Yukon, Tahoe) and they build the Aztek, Rendezous there.  I know the Silverado/Sierra is built in the US and Canada, but I’m not aware of a truck plant in Mexico, but it is possible, the VIN will definitely tell! Harry, that is news to me. Do you have any links to substantiate? The Silverado is definitely made in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. See attached link: http://www.gm.com/company/gmability/environment/plants/plant_db/canad… a_truck.html Additionally, the attached chart indicates 5 U.S. plants manufacture also produce the Silverado. No mention of Mexican plants. http://www.gm.com/cgi-bin/pr_display.pl?3248 Please clarify. Thanks.
