This thread prompted a phone call to Maury Silverfield at the law firm Leiff Cabraser Phone number 1-415-956-1000 X230. He said GM has appealed the settlement because the transfer of the coupons is too easy. This case may never be resolved if the appeals keep coming. — Cheers, Steve 82 Z28 305 4 speed For Sale 00 Camaro SS #1363 on its way 96 K1500 The opinions expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of my employer or any one else. My father&I farm and have owned a 78 gmc since new.Over the last few years we had been thinking about buying a new one. When we brought up the gas tank lawsuit when dealing we were always told thatit could be years before we could get anything out of it until last august. We had gotten a couple of letters from gm on the subject years ago and they asked to see them. After looking the letters over and making some phone calls they said yes gm would give us a $1000. off towards a new truck plus the best deal we could make without the lawsuit. We never saw a certificate until after the deal was made.We never got a certificate in the mail. Anyway, we ended up with a new 2000 gmc sierra and still have the old truck. That’s how it worked out for us……al In article > Did they ever settle the lawsuits over the gas tanks? > My family has had a 77 since new and I am

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, GM has appealed the "settlement" because the "certificates" would be too easy to sell on the open market. GM wants to be sure that only owners get the $1K. The longer they stall the fewer original owners will claim the certs. BTW, the date that counts is July 4, 1996. Hang on to those old registration slips! If you can prove that you owned the truck on that date, you qualify for the certificate. Go ahead an sell your truck if you owned it on that date. — Cheers, Steve 82 Z28 305 4 speed For Sale 00 Camaro SS #1363 on its way 96 K1500 Silverado 350 5 speed 3.73 axles Z71 G80 etc. The opinions expressed here are mine alone and do not represent those of my employer or any one else. Did they ever settle the lawsuits over the gas tanks? My family has had a 77 since new and I am thinking about buying a new truck and could use the discount I heard about. I have not heard anything about this in a couple of years. I still love the old truck, just put a new crate motor from GM in it. Thanks for any info. Mark
Response:
GM mailed a rebate to everyone who had one of these trucks registered at the time. I got one but never used it. The rebate was for $1000 off the purchase of a new truck. I dont know if there was a deadline to use them or not. — Chris ***** Money isn’t everything…. there’s credit cards, money orders, and travelers checks.

You better get after GM about this. My 94 truck had a recall offer that I’ve been trying to claim since July. The Customer Service group at GM has been giving me the Royal-Run-Around since then. I think the whole Customer Service group that is handling my recall is either dishonest or really stupid. I’ve even talked to a Manager there twice and have come away empty handed. The really stupid thing is that I’m trying to recover a mere $8.95 for a brake switch that I bought and installed. Those idiots have already spent 10 times that by having to deal with my calls and letters. I’ll keep pounding on them though. It’s the principal you know! A dissatisfied GM owner. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Did they ever settle the lawsuits over the gas tanks? > My family has had a 77 since new and I am thinking about buying a new truck > and could use the discount I heard about. I have an article dated June 14, 1999 from the Consumer Law Page. One of the paragraphs: " Upon receipt of a Proof of Claim form postmarked within 15 months following the mailing of the final notice pursuant to paragraph VII.7., an entity or entities selected by CLASS COUNSEL and General Motors and paid by General Motors, subject to court approval, shall issue to each SETTLEMENT CLASS menber for each GM PICKUP TRUCK owned a certificate toward the purchase of any NEW GM VEHICLE purchased from an authorized GM dealer of that line and make subject tp thefollowing terms and conditions:" Lots of legalese about redemption conditions. Has anyone received a certificate? How do I submit a claim form? Where do I obtan a claim form? How long does it take for the certificate to arrive after the claim form is submitted? My new Camaro SS is due to arrive in the next few weeks. I’d sure like to get that $1K coupon before it arrives!
