Daytime Running Light [new]

Question:

I just got a ‘00 GMC Sierra Classic 2500 4wd Crew Cab and was wondering if there is way to convert the DRL’s to automatically switch to full lighting when it gets dark.  My ‘97 GTP had that system and I really liked it. I’m surprised all GM’s don’t have it by now.  I would guess a sensor and a different light switch would be needed at minimum. Ken Frederick

Unless you are against headlights during the day, you could do what I did and use a few relays to make the headlight on whenever the key is in the on position.  I did that on my truck and made the relay system only active when the IGN and ACC circuits were active.  I used both circuits as the activator so that A) The lights weren’t on when the key was only in the ACC position like when waiting to pick someone up and listening to the radio and B) so the lights wouldn’t be on when my vehicle was under the control of my remote starter (the remote starter only activates the IGN circuits). Also, you might want to also disconnect the light lead on the radio.  The radio is wired to dim the display when the headlights are on (night) and be bright with the headlights off (day). > I just got a ‘00 GMC Sierra Classic 2500 4wd Crew Cab and was wondering > if there is way to convert the DRL’s to automatically switch to full > lighting when it gets dark.  My ‘97 GTP had that system and I really > liked it.
