Axle Seals: Why do they keep blowing???

Question:

Took my truck to a local brake shop today for a brake inspection and oil change, and while the rears were off they discovered my axle seals were blown.  I had them replaced (by the dealer) back in March, and again in August. It’s a ‘97 GMC Sierra Z71 1500 SB Ext Cab.  Any ideas?  I do not ever carry heavy loads (500lbs max, and that’s rare). Thanks. —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–==  Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–

Response:

If the bearings are out that will cause even a new seal to leak..   Or is there is a groove in the axle where the bearing rides. Response:

Bent axle? (Jack it up and let it spin) Tire or  rim out or balance? Had to change axle on my 85. Just a thought. Dan

Response:

bearing or groove cut into axle at seal surface

Response:

I had the same problem, In my case it was a clogged vent tube under the hood on my front axle. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->bearing or groove cut into axle at seal surface
