you are correct….The tech folks at the 800 number for chevy lied to me (probably not intentionally.) I also saw a 2003 Cheverolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew cab with the Plow prep pkg. So I do not know what the Techs at Chevy are smoking. Anyway, I purchased my truck last Saturday with all the extra’s and I will get it in 6-8 weeks.  Hopefully sooner. Thanks for the heads up. E

Really?  You mean the Non-HD?   There is a 2500HD with a plow and plow prep package sitting on the lot at Jim Barnard Chevrolet in NY, with the Duramax.  I looked at it but they didn’t want to deal too much….that’s a whole story in itself. Yes you can build the truck you want, but you can not get the factory to build it. I’ve been on the phone with Chevrolets customer service and I just found out that they will not put a plow prep pkg on either the 2500 or 3500 with a Duramax Diesel, regardless of the body style.  Just won’t do it.  I believe the factory before I believe edmunds or any dealer. I’ll be posting this revelation new….

Eric, This should come as no surprise.  For a Ford with the IH powerstroke, you have to have a 1 ton (F-350) to put a plow on it.  It may be the same way with a piece of Dodge, too with the Cummins. Of course a Ford F-250 SD is maxed out with a mildly loaded utility box in place of the bed, too, though, so not much surprises.  I am surprised they don’t spec. a F-550 or 650 for a plow. Snowman

But I might have to compromise…. The extended cab is enticing also,  perhaps my 2nd choice behind forcing the plow on the crew cab model and crossing the fingers….. Different frame on a crew cab and that means more weight already on the front end. Add the Duramax and the Allison and your close on the max on the front end. Not enough left for the plow without undue stress. > 2.  What do you suppose would happen if I bought the 2500HD Duramax Crew > Cab > and simply put a plow on it after I got it home. ?  (would the sky fall?) > Would Chevy void > the warranty?  (I know that’s true of a 1500.)

Probably void the warranty. > 3.  How close to the edge of  (busting an axel) or (blowing a tire) are we > talking here for all > the extra weight?    What is their beef?

Depends on the plow and the tires and the way the front is set up. But it might be within a few hundred pounds of max. > 4.  Any other bizarre gocha’s you folks have heard about,  Like if you buy > the BLACK truck > you can’t have an automatic transmission…<Chuckle>  Doh!

As I spec’d out my new 2003 2500HD  Duramax/Allison to be ordered from the factory I have a few requirements…… 1.  Need for a tow package (Have a camper….) 2.  Need the plow prep package (Plow in the winter.)$$ 3.  Wanted a roomy Crew Cab (Good for the kid). 4.  Need the Diesel for the torque and the better fuel mileage.     (Plan to put 250+ k miles on this baby) Went to the dealer and gave them the list, they came back and said, Chevrolet won’t put a package together that has both the Duramax Diesel, AND Plow Prep.   Have to go with the Gas engine…… And I quote the Chevrolet customer service rep on the phone 1-800-222-1020 and I quote:  "The Duramax Diesel is a significantly heavier engine and would cause too much weight to be put on the front of the truck with a plow attached….so the factory won’t build it that way…." I dug a little deeper with a local dealership and the dealership came back and said that if I simply changed over to the Extended Cab, the factory would put a plow prep package on a 2500HD with a Duramax engine… NOW THE QUESTIONS: 1.  Can anyone explain why an extended cab has more capacity than a Crew cab for weight on the front end?  I just are not smart enough for that one…:(. 2.  What do you suppose would happen if I bought the 2500HD Duramax Crew Cab and simply put a plow on it after I got it home. ?  (would the sky fall?) Would Chevy void the warranty?  (I know that’s true of a 1500.) 3.  How close to the edge of  (busting an axel) or (blowing a tire) are we talking here for all the extra weight?    What is their beef? 4.  Any other bizarre gocha’s you folks have heard about,  Like if you buy the BLACK truck you can’t have an automatic transmission…<Chuckle>  Doh!
