Opinions on older Chev Astro/GMC Safari?

I own an ‘88 Astro and the previous owner installed a 6,000-pound receiver hitch but I don’t know what the heck they might have towed with it. It is a nice vehicle to drive around town and I got 22.5mpg with mine on the highway. > I know the 4.3 is a reliable engine, but what >about the tranny and other powertrain? The worst problem I encountered is having to replace the alternator three times in seven years of driving it. Except for the hassle of working on the engine in its confined space, I’ve enjoyed owning and driving mine. —
