follow up on whats wrong astro
Question:
I have a ‘92 Astro. If you have a local Autozone, I know they have a key that fits the OBD (no charge) to easily check the codes (assuming that the ‘93 is the same setup). A paper clip or any piece of wire works as well. Usually, you insert the key into the jumper block (the upper right corner on the ‘92 if I remember correctly) then turn the ignition key to the "on" position (don’t start it). You should see one long flash followed by two short flashes ("12") from the check engine light. This will repeat for a total of three times. Then any stored codes will be displayed, each one repeated 3 times. Then it will end with "12" three times indicating the end of stored codes. Your brother should be able to look up the codes for you or find a shop manual. Hope this helps. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Yeah I saw the A to H jump on a web page, it was wrong. Mike: First, what year Astro was this? I have the shop manual for a 1995. It does not list a code 12. 21 is the lowest trouble code listed (Right Front speed sensor or circuit open.) At the risk of insulting you, you are reading the ABS light, not the SES? And this says to short pin H to pin A. If you were reading the SES light a 12 would indicate the OBD is functioning ok. The manual says nothing about a similar self-check of the ABS (or AWAL) system. If I can look up anything else, say the word. Myron E. It means you jumped the wrong terminals, and got a code 12 (All well) from the ABS computer instead. When you jump the proper terminal, the Check Engine light will flash instead, and spit out the relevant codes. — Mark – Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Chevy Astro / GMC Safari Message Board! I asked my brother because he is an ASE certified mechanic. He told me how to do it but I haven’t gotten around to doing it right
