Aztek selling like hotcakes?
Question:
I’ve seen a lot of these on the road lately and the car isn’t exactly cheap.

I think that the Aztec is proof that some people are simply looking for something "Different" to drive… Look at the PT Cruiser, for instance.. Personally, other then the nifty retro front end, I think the rest of the PT, especially the rear end, look blah. However, be it simply because they’re "Different", everyone is running out to buy one, to the point where people are actually taking delivery of them in colours they really don’t like/want simply so they can park the thing in their driveway and join the "Me too!" crowd. — Mark – Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Chevy Astro / GMC Safari Message Board! It’s kind of strange someone should mention this. Out here in Northern CA, I’ve only seen two of them on the road. I thought that noone was buying them at all. However, when I went back to the midwest for the holidays, there were a lot of them on the road. They were everywhere! I saw two Aztecs driving out of the airport parking lot. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’ve seen a lot of these on the road lately and the car isn’t exactly > cheap.

Bigtime rumor has it that the word has come down from the top and all of the executive level management have been given one of these things to drive around. I think they are trying to make it appear as if more ar being sold than actually are. I know I haven’t seen one outside of the dealer here in central NC. One dealer I drive by every day used to have two that sat out near the road. They stood there for about 3 months. Haven’t seen them since, don’t see any on the lot anymore. Granted I can only sneak a peak since I have to watch the road really closely in this area but now the Montana and Yukon are the ones out front. They even put the Buick Regals out front for heavans sake!!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I’ve seen a lot of these on the road lately and the car isn’t exactly > cheap.

GM is making managers and any other employees who want to drive Azteks around town when they need to leave work (lunch, errands, customer pick ups, etc…) Also, seen a few made into taxi’s in las vegas…. other than that, I havent seen many in new mexico, where I live, just the dealership ones. Then again, those mid westerners… nutty…. -Doug

Yeah, I’ve heard this from a few friends with relatives who work for GM. Pretty pathetic. "See? Look! People drive Azteks! See? Guys? See? …guys? …guys?" The Aztek is an abomination before Earl. I see a few around here (Ann Arbor, MI), usually with Manufacturer plates. > Also, seen a few made into taxi’s in las vegas…
Las Vegas taxi service is uniquely demanding. Chrysler has for decades had arrangements with Las Vegas taxi companies; they supply the cars and maintenance in exchange for getting lots of real-world data on experimental or in-development engines and transmissions and other components. I’ve ridden in Chrysler-product taxicabs in Vegas that sound and work decidedly differently from the way they "should", if they had normal production running gear. I imagine GM and Ford have similar arrangements. –Daniel "Television is a medium. It is a medium because it is neither rare, nor well-done." — NBCS b6f+wg++rp —
