'86 Astro/Safari trans compatible with '85?
Question:
At some piont in time, GM re-worked the 700R4 a bit, the guy that vuilt my tranny told me. He said they changed some things, and that the original version was a piece of crap. The only specific thing I remember him saying was that he used the new one for mine, and that the new one has a direct kickdown from 4th to 2nd. I’m thinking he said that these changes happened in ‘85, but I’m not sure. Might want to run that past someone at a GM parts counter… Scott – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Any differences in the 700r4 trans between ‘85 and later model Chevy > Astro/GMC Safari vans? > The ‘85 4.3 V6 is carbureted, later models fuel injected. > Thanks,
Response:
Yes, many changes. But they are internal, so if you wanted to do a swap, you’d be fine if you used the same torque converter that came with the trans. P.S. There were quite a few years that had changes, but the vast majority were in ‘87 – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Any differences in the 700r4 trans between ‘85 and later model Chevy >Astro/GMC Safari vans? >The ‘85 4.3 V6 is carbureted, later models fuel injected. >Thanks,
