Who has the most miles on their 350???
Question:
My 92 G 3500 was at 999,000 when GM gave me a new van it had three trannies and two water pumps and 2 fuel pumps ran Mobil 1 and that is all, they have removed the engine and ripped it down and said that it could have done another 2 – 3 hundred thousand no problem and my 99 G3500 has 325,000 and has only gone through a fuel sender I drive coast to coast so miles are easy to rack up.
Response:

I figured brakes and tires go without saying. But since you asked… I haven’t kept close track of tires. The worst usage I had was from a set of 235×85 Armstrongs – barely got 35K on them; the best was from a set of 265×70 Goodyear GSA’s – nearly 90K. Several years back I bought a set of "Lifetime Warranty" calipers and pads. The local chain went out of business, so that didn’t work too well. The fine print must have meant *their* lifetime – not the actual parts
. I guess I get in the neighborhood of 40-50K on the front brakes, a little more out of the rears. Okay, now I’m starting to recall a few other items. New ball joints about 6 years ago; new pitman arm about the same time. And a new rear brake cylinder about 3 years ago. New fuel pump 12 months ago. I try to keep it aligned about every 6 months or so. About 4 years ago I backed up against a large stack of split rail fencing which put a small (as in shallow), but long and noticeable crease down the box on the right side. I have an old car that I’d begun restoring so just took the opportunity and enrolled in a year of auto body night classes at the local comm’y college. I fixed my own dent and repainted the whole truck, well, just because. Made it two-tone while I was at it (stayed with factory colors and schemes though). It does need a new set of shocks – it’s on it’s second set – Monroes. And I hate them; will never get another set by them. And I’ve done all my own tune-ups. And other than my own self-inflicted crease, it’s never been in an accident or hit. All in all, I think I’ve pretty well squeezed every nickel out of her, and she sure doesn’t owe me anything. I can honestly say that I’ve never been stranded or let down. I’ll never buy any other truck but Chevy – if and when I replace this one! (Actually, my son is 10 now – probably hand him the keys to it one day…) s.m.lewis

I’ve only got about 250,000 on my Chev. i had a gmc 305 for 12 years. when the tranny went out(a 700r4) for the fourth time, i gave up on her. i had 423000 miles on the engine. always used penzoil 10w30, every time, every 3000 miles. i think every engine with routine care will last at least 500000 miles. just my opinion though. except maybe hyundai!!!! —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–

I turned 270K about 3 weeks ago on my ‘89 K1500. Ordered it new from the factory. Run nothing but Mobil-1. As for maintenance, let’s see… It’s on it’s 3rd starter, (all figures include the factory original) it’s 3rd set of intake gaskets, it’s 4th or 5th thermostat, it’s 2nd alternator, it’s 3rd set of u-joints, it’s 2nd exhaust system (converter, inclusive, and back), it’s 2nd ring & pinion (rear – my fault, ’cause I dropped it off the jack too quick after taking the snow tires off. The parking brake was set and when it hit the ground… and, well… expensive lesson) s.m.lewis

I had an ‘84 305 with 180,000 miles on it in a K10. It never had any internal work done to it, and even had the original v/c gaskets. I transplanted it into an older truck, and it’s still running fine! 3,000 mile oil changes do a lot for the life of an engine!!!
