The codes at that web site are RPO codes, and not part of your VIN. Look in your glove compartment, you will find a sticker with a whole bunch of 3-letter/digit codes. Those are the RPO codes that represent all of the installed components of your vehicle. RPO stands for Regular Production Options. AFAIK, this link– http://tinyurl.com/fdw9 should be a 100+ page document in .pdf format that contains all of GM’s RPO codes. HMc

With your valve stem straight down, make a chaulk mark on you r driveshaft. Have someone drive truck straight ahead one tire rotation. Count number of turns of driveshaft until the valve stem is straight down again. If mark has gone around just over 4 times, it’s a 4.10. Three and three quarters turns, it’s a 3.73. Just under3 and one half turns, a 3.42. Just over 3 turns, a 3.08. Quicker than tryin to cipher a code!

“along with the G80″ you poor soul

GT5 in mine, along with the G80. My 2003 has a 3.73 posI rear end and the code in the glovebox is GT4. I also had a 2000 with a 3.42 posI rear and the 3.42 gears were standard that year for an LS, standard cab, short bed with a 4.8 V-8. Good luck, Karl

The G80 is not what one would call ‘durable’ it classifies as a ‘locker’, but just barely

I also am wondering what I have. I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy, 4×4. I have 2 numbers that begin with G. But they are on a white sticker in the glove box. GU6 G80 Thanks in advanced. Take the VIN to a dealer, they should be able to print an options list for you. If they won’t, find the yellow sticker in the glovebox and post the 3-digit code starting with G. I just bought a 2000 CHEVROLET K1500 SILVERADO through an auction and I was wondering which part of the VIN gives u that info and how do I translate it. part of the vin has a T4 in it I thought is was those 2 digits but not sure and if it is not sure which rear end it is. Thanks
