Dude I got mine from the junk yard for 75 cheap canadian dollors. Replacing all the bearings and seals ran pretty heavy though. Replaced the inner ones (said the outer where decent and they would cost some good coin to replace), brake shoes, ebrake cables, and repainted it and the seals and that ran me around $300cdn. so I think those wreckers are either 1. dont know what you are talking about 2. trying to bend you over 3. have a kick ass axle 4. or you dont know what you or talking about. But you sound like you do. Check out this guys site he did a 14 bolt swap on his Blazer http://coloradok5.com/axleswap.shtml If you do find one and you need to pick it up make sure you bring friends cause this bitch is HEAVY. But the install is a Dream at least it was for me. every thing pretty much just bolts right up. Also remember the other things like driveshaft being shortened, new rims, all the little stuff like you break a brakline and it has to be replaced new brake shoes, gear oil, new u-bolts. also check out the ping and pinion of the axle to see if it will need work as well. Also to see if it is an open carrier or if it has limited slip, cause if you plan on installing a detriot locker (pretty much the only locker availible for this axle) you will need an open carrier since the limited slip carrier cannot be used. ya so have fun Kurt – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi, > I am going to be getting a 14 bolt rear end for an 88 Suburban. Underpressure75 – Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I found a 14 bolt in Pick-Your-Part the other day for $50! The best part, it has a locker in it. It’s just a "Govlock", but for fifty bucks Canadian, I should buy a lottery ticket too! Jay.

I bought a nice used one for $100US here in michigan. That guy had four or five of them . I put all new bearings, brakes, etc…. $800 is way high, even for Canadian….go find a nice rusty C30 chevy with no engine and offer $200. Just pick one that hasn’t had the R&P screwed with…(or left underwater as one axle in this guys yard was ("How about this one?{woosshh..drip,drip}"…uh..no… thanks..)) Delivery on that pig is gotta be high…keep shopping…..make a day trip if you have to.. Yes our Canadian dollar just might as well role over and die. I ordered $480 US worth of body parts from JC Whitney and with shipping it came to almost $1000 Canadian. As for getting the axle, I think I will look around for an old junker and buy it. Thanks, Clint

Clint, It depends. Check the 4×4 mags. You can buy a completely rebuilt one, drum to drum, with a locker in it for $1,200US. I think it’s Boyce Equipment in CA that sells them. Locally, you may have to shop really hard. Maybe someone has a rusty beater beater with bad engine and/or tranny and you might be able to get it for a lot less than $1,200. Then you’ll have lots of stuff you can sell and maybe make back most of the purchase price. Just be sure it’s a FF rear end.
