synthetic oil, new car

Question:

my truck, a 94.  No leaks, no problems, > still gest good gas mileage.  I don’t see a problem switching, though leaks > very well could result…

You answered your own question …;-)

Response:

I don’t think a problem is very likely on a ‘95 with 75000, the seals shouldn’t have any leaks that would be exposed by the synthetic. Now, if there are any apparent leaks now, they may get worse. — Robert Hancock      Saskatoon, SK, Canada Home Page: http://www.roberthancock.com/

Response:

Why?  I switched at 80,000 miles on my truck, a 94.  No leaks, no problems, still gest good gas mileage.  I don’t see a problem switching, though leaks very well could result… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > too late, keep using dino oil, > — > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by EZ Trust Antivirus from Computers Associates > http://www.my-eTrust.com. > I just picked up a 95 la sabre with 75000mi. Response:

I did the synthetic change after my first oil change. (2001 GMC Jimmy) The engine will burn oil for the first few 1000k’s as the pistons rings expand and "break-in"  you should see some oil consumption which is normal. After the first oil change go and fill-it up with synthetic, I used Mobil One but any synthetic is far superior to conventional oils plus you can extend oil changes to almost double the time.

Response:

Just bought a 2001 sunfire. When should I use synthetic oil? It’s been suggested that I wait until the break-in period is over (20,000 km’s) so that everything seats properly. I’d rather use it right away?! Opinions?! rob
