Seat Belt Retractor
Question:
My seat belt does not work on my 1988 GMC Jimmy. I heard the GMC dealer should cover this, it has 78,000 on it, is this true? Has anyone had this problem? Thanks! Walt Z. Scottsdale, AZ.
Response:
they will only cover it if it is a recall or special policy or under warranty
Response:

Hello. I have a 99 XLT and a problem with the passenger seat belt retractor. Does anyone have a solution for increasing the tension of the retractor so that the belt is fully retracted once the passenger unfastens it? Thanks for the help Dave

Open the door. Part of the mechanism is held from fully retracting while the door is closed. It’s released when the door is opened.

Thank you for your reply. I guess I should have mentioned that this situation has become a problem because of the fact that the door is often being closed on the belt after the passenger exits from the vehicle and the belt fails to retract. I usually remember to grab the belt before the door is closed, but many times have been left with the belt caught in the door. Again, if anyone knows how to increase the tension of the retractor, the information would be appreciated. Response:
Dave – Same thing happened on the driver’s side belt retractor on my ‘99. Took it in to the dealer and they fixed it — no questions.
