GMC Jimmy

Question:

My GMC Jimmy 1984 4X4, 2.8l V6 received a rebuild tranny. The mechanic played around with the timing, since in his opinion was off.  Now that good ol’ gal is knocking hard, but ONLY under load (up hill, or pushing the gas pedal). Would anybody know what that could be? Any advice or thoughs would be very much appreciated. Tnx Frank

Response:

Several things can cause pre-detonation: Low octane gas. Timing too advanced. Air/fuel mixture too lean. Carbon on the pistons. Engine running hot. Get it fixed.  Eventually you will burn pistons & valves. > My GMC Jimmy 1984 4X4, 2.8l V6 received a rebuild tranny. > The mechanic played around with the timing, since in his opinion > was off.  Now that good ol’ gal is knocking hard, but ONLY under load > (up hill, or pushing the gas pedal). Response:

Take it back and have him "play around" with the timing gain.  Only this time tell him to set it to the factory specs.  IF it was ok before he touched it……  well you get the idea.
