GM 4 inch Lift Question
Question:
I have a 83 GMC Jimmy full size truck running 33’s. I am considering putting on a 3 or 4 inch lift for the extra clearance. Does anyone know of anything special that I need to do with the steering, drive shaft or transmission. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks in Advance Tom
Response:
What tranny and transfer case do you have? From what i have seen, you should not need any driveline mods. You might want to look into a dropped steering arm, though. I have a 77 full-size with a stick and an np205 combo. The front driveshaft has the factory CV joint. That helps out the front. The rear seems to be long enough on mine, but yours is a bit different… — Andy Quaas

I have an 89" Suburban running 33’s with a SkyJacker softride 21/2 " spring lift…. It is plenty o clearance for 33’s…. And with only 21/2" inches of lift not much else needs to be done…. although I am getting a longer steering arm …. I have just the slightest of bump steer! I missed the first part of this thread, but just put a rear CV joint driveshaft in my ‘72 Jimmy-Muncie 465, NP 205, 4" lift with Skyjacker rear springs, 104" wheelbase. Money was well spent. I don’t know if it’s just because the driveshat DOESN’T have 350,000 miles on it or that the CV joint makes it just that much smoother. I’m pretty confident that I won’t have to replace u-joints every 15,000 miles anymore! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> What tranny and transfer case do you have?
