Gear ratio change

I changed to 3:73 gears on my 95 Suburban and I had to change the vehicle speed sensor buffer located under the computer to correct my speedometer. It costed about $80.00.

I have a ‘90 GMC FS 4×4 Jimmy with a 700R4 transmission.  It came from the factory with 3.08 road gears.  Gas mileage is good but I wouldn’t try pulling much with it.  I would like to go to a 3.73 rear (and front) differential ratio.  Question: Will I have to change a gear in the tranny or perhaps have the computer chip changed fo the speedometer to still read correctly?
