Check gauges flashing

Question:

I suggest checking to make sure the oil pressure is up to snuff! Sounds like the check engine light is flashing as a result of the oil pressure, have a local shop ck the oil pressure with a gauge or just replaced the sender if its in an accessible location. Had an old car that did the same thing for weeks until it finally lost oil pressure and seized up.

Response:

You may have misunderstood. It is not flashing check engine. It is flashing check gauges. It is entirely a different warning signal, this is something that I have not had the experience with any of my cars so far. But with tax refund coming soon , it is replaced by Monday afternoon.Hopefully this will take care of it. The oil is fine and well maintained. The engine is very strong. I replaced the engine cap about 6 months ago and have kept it up it sound running order since I bought it 5 years ago. I thank you for reply and will be on the guard for the oil pressure but hope that my luck is not as – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I suggest checking to make sure the oil pressure is up to snuff! > Sounds like the check engine light is flashing as a result of the oil > pressure, have a local shop ck the oil pressure with a gauge or just > replaced the sender if its in an accessible location. > Had an old car that did the same thing for weeks until it finally lost oil > pressure and seized up.

I have a 1989 GMC Jimmy S-15 6-cylinder 4×4. The check gauges have been flashing for 3 weeks. During normal driving it behaves itself. If you stop for any reason with it in drive it starts flashing, put it in neutral and it quits. I have noticed that the oil gauge may be doing this cause it flickers also. Could the oil sending unit be defective? Anyway to check this out before I replace it? Money is tight right now but it must be fixed, I just hate to spend money in the wrong place. Am I on the right track or is it in the computer box? Am I even questioning the correct end of the truck?
