Blazer

Question:

looking for a 3/4 or 1/2 ton Blazer, any ideas??

Response:

No such thing as 3/4ton blazer.   Closest to it is the military version (I think M1009?).  Diesel and HD axles, and 24V electrics. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > looking for a 3/4 or 1/2 ton Blazer, any ideas??

Response:

Only the military versions.  Diesels became available on Blazers/Jimmy’s in the early ’80’s on civilian vehicles and had the standard 12V electrics. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > didn’t all the deisels have 24 volts? > No such thing as 3/4ton blazer.   Closest to it is the military version > (I think M1009?).  Diesel and HD axles, and 24V electrics. > > looking for a 3/4 or 1/2 ton Blazer, any ideas??

Response:

You may be partly right. My non-military 1982 deisel Blazer had ,from the factory, a 24 volt starting system. I’m not sure if the rest of the electrics were 24 volt or not. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Only the military versions.  Diesels became available on Blazers/Jimmy’s in > the early ’80’s on civilian vehicles and had the standard 12V electrics. > didn’t all the deisels have 24 volts? > > No such thing as 3/4ton blazer.   Closest to it is the military version > > (I think M1009?).  Diesel and HD axles, and 24V electrics. > > > looking for a 3/4 or 1/2 ton Blazer, any ideas??

Well, you ain’t gonna find a 3/4 ton Blazer from the factory… only came in 1/2ton. Don: It should be bolted on the back of the manifold. Looks like a silver doughnut with a hose coming out of it going to the EGR sloenoid… I’m having the same problem, but I have replaced the EGR valve, EGR solenoid, MAP sensor, O2 sensor, rebuilt the TBI (on my 88), and done a full tune-up to include cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, air filter. and pcv valve…So needless to say, I want to know what your problem might be… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >i would also look for vacuum leak an egr valve should set check eng light > I have a ‘94 S-10 Blazer (4.3 L V6, Vortec) that has began to start hard >and > is idling rough. My dad has always told me me that the 4.3 Vortec was a sawed-off 350. It’s a great little engine by the way. It’d make an awesome hot-rod motor.

ok, I’m gonna look like a dork here, (but hey, the engines I work on myself are flathead fords) but what is anEGR valve and where is it on the engine? Pardon my ignorance.

Response:

Your dad was right, the 4.3 is a 350 with 2 cyl. sawed off, basically.  I totally agree, it’s a wonderful motor, and the CPI version needs no mods to make it fast, in an S-truck anyway…. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > My dad has always told me me that the 4.3 Vortec was a sawed-off 350. Exhaust Gas Recirculation.  Mounted on the intake mainfold on my 94 4.3 CPI, Vortec engine… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > ok, I’m gonna look like a dork here, (but hey, the engines I work on myself > are flathead fords) but what is anEGR valve and where is it on the engine? > Pardon my ignorance. > Try checking the EGR valve…sounds like it may be stuck open a little bit > > I have a ‘94 S-10 Blazer (4.3 L V6, Vortec) that has began to start hard > and > > is idling rough. Response:

An EGR valve is an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. It is usually located on the intake manifold and recirculates exhaust back from the exhaust manifolds into the  intake manifold. Also sounds like you could have a bad or sticky PCV valve, it is located on one of the valve covers and is basically a check valve, take it off and soak it in a good cleaning solution to remove old gummed up oils and deposits, blow it out with an air compressor.

Don, Make certain to change the rotor and distributor cap.  I have a buddy with a ‘94, and he has had to change the EGR valve (so you might want to check it with a vacuum pump following the service manual instructions).  Only in his case, the truck stopped running all together. 4.3L is a 5.7L (350 cid) with two cylinders chopped off, so I would bet that some of the problems seen by 5.7L owners may apply to you too.
