99 GMC Jimmy DRL/Blinker?

Question:

Yes it is normal for 99’s to do this, they started this feature mid year in 1998 because NHTSA said the DRL’s were too close to the turn signals and people may not see the turn signal or something to that effect.  So GMC programmed them to shut off when signals are on, but only GMC Jimmys do this, the Blazer didnt because they have that bar that runs from the grill and splits the turn signal and headlights.

Did the dealer replace the alternator?  If so, the dealer may have changed the daytime running light bulbs too!  You see, the bulbs that came with the truck would pre-maturely burn out!  I used to work for a GM dealership, there was a silent recall on these bulbs!  As to your problem of being normal or not, I can’t help you there, sorry. — DeathRat64 Co-Founder/Moderator Bonneville Intensity Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bonnevilleintensity —

It’s normal for those trucks to do that.  I’ve seen several around that do, none that don’t… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Did the dealer replace the alternator?  If so, the dealer may have changed > the daytime running light bulbs too!  You see, the bulbs that came with the > truck would pre-maturely burn out!  I used to work for a GM dealership, > there was a silent recall on these bulbs!  As to your problem of being > normal or not, I can’t help you there, sorry. > — > DeathRat64 > Co-Founder/Moderator > Bonneville Intensity Group: > http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bonnevilleintensity > — >I recently purchased a used 99 GMC Jimmy.  I’m curious about the Daytime >Running Lights.  My DRL’s shut off when I turn on the blinker and then > come >back on when the blinker shuts off.  I have no problems with my regular >night head lights.  I’m getting conflicting stories as to whether this is >normal or not.  It certainly seems unusual for cars other then my year and >model, but I’m told it is normal for this particular year Jimmy. >Can anyone confirm whether this is normal?  If so, does anyone know why? >About a week after I noticed it (it was probably doing it all along) I had >to have the alternator replaced and I am a little concerned at the >coincidence. >Thanks in advance for any assistance! >– >-Paula > Free your mind and the rest will follow > www.digiserve.com/er >— >Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. >Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

I recently purchased a used 99 GMC Jimmy.  I’m curious about the Daytime Running Lights.  My DRL’s shut off when I turn on the blinker and then come back on when the blinker shuts off.  I have no problems with my regular night head lights.  I’m getting conflicting stories as to whether this is normal or not.  It certainly seems unusual for cars other then my year and model, but I’m told it is normal for this particular year Jimmy. Can anyone confirm whether this is normal?  If so, does anyone know why? About a week after I noticed it (it was probably doing it all along) I had to have the alternator replaced and I am a little concerned at the coincidence. Thanks in advance for any assistance! — -Paula  Free your mind and the rest will follow  www.digiserve.com/er — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
