88 S10 Blazer cross member
Question:
I’m working on my ‘88 S10 Blazer (actually a GMC Jimmy) 4X4. The service manual says to remove the cross member (3 bolts on each side) in order to remove the starter. It appears that the front torsion bar springs are in the way of removing the cross member. Has anyone found a solution to this problem, short of removing the torsion bar springs? Thanks in advance Jim
Response:
I changed my starter in my 88 Jimmy 4×4 without removing anything that serious. If I remember right it took a little patience and help from someone on the top to wiggle the starter out. Hope that helps, but it really wasn’t too tough.

Response:
WhenI replaced the starter on my ‘85 S-10 Blazer, I had to remove the cross member also, but all you need to do is moved it down and back a little, then you can slip the starter out easier.
