1991 GMC JIMMY full size – transmission help
Question:
Hello, I am hoping for some help on a transmission problem. I have the 700R4 in a 1991 Jimmy. When it is in overdrive and I start from a stop it makes a grinding sound when i accelerate. Then when it shift gears it grinds and shifts. In between shifts it runs great I can get on the gas and it still runs fine. If I manually shift through the gears it does not do the grinding sound. The fluid level is OK and the color and smell appear to be alright. Ujoints appear Ok. Rearend seems fine and full of fluid. I do not know!!!!!! I suspect I need to remove the pan and check for metal. Draggggggg……. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Response:
How many miles are on it? My 89′ 700 died in about 91′ right after I did a 100K fluid change. I got some dirt in it I guess and I had to drive home to NY from NC in second. Anyway, when It was rebuilt there were about 25 improvements to it that were installed by the trans shop for known problems, and that was 10 years ago. Think you are ready for a rebuild too.
