wireing for 4 x 4 floor shirter

Question:

I just put a 84 2 wd GMC cab on a 4×4 drive drain with a 208 transfer case and am trying to hook the wires up for the shifter on the floor. I have 3 wires white, gray and black the gray and black go to light the indicator light(goes on with the headlights) and the black spits at that light and goes to the switch on the transfer case. I am trying to hook up the light in the instrument cluster that says 4 wheel drive I am guessing they are using a hot going to the bulb and using the switch on the transfer case as a ground for that light in the cluster. any one had experience with this? Am I figuring this out right?

Best I can do is tell you about an 89′ V1500 Jimmy wiring. Br/Wt #141 from accessory position in fuse box to the dash lamp Wht #156 to a connector for the floor shifter wiring where it meets with a Blk #150. These plug into the short harness going to the switch on the transfer case. The Blk #150 goes to ground on the buss up on the door jamb by the headlight switch. That is the 4WD switch wiring. The lamp on the shifter is connected to the dash lamps and I can’t find it in the diagram right now quickly. You can figure that out if you just swapped the cab I’m sure. Hope this helps.
