I had a similar truck and paid $700 for the whole thing. I’d guess that a clean bed shouldn’t be more than $150 or so. Fish Before you buy.

I got lucky, and a local shop was selling parts off a truck, since the owner couldn’t pay his bill after getting a trans installed. I paid only $250 for the bed. It was spotless. The truck was 2wd, but that makes no difference. I also made a web page showing the whole swap procedure. I included tips that might help aid the swap. Things most people would never think of. Like changing the fuel lines while the bed is off, and access is easy. Any bed, from any 73 – 87 2wd or 4wd truck will bolt right on. I had to drill 2 holes mounting that 87 bed on my 80 GMC frame, but that was it. In 1992, I paid $700 for a new bed, complete with tailgate, unassembled. This was aftermarket. A new bed now, from say LMC truck, runs well over $1,000. Another option, is to find a NEW parts supplier in your area. There is actually a website listing members state by state of the replacement body parts association. There is a link to it on my links page if you are interested. In a nutshell, anything less than $700 for a clean bed is a good deal. You might also want to check classifieds for "truck for parts", or ones that need a motor or trans. Sometimes, you can find one, and take all that you need. Like I said, I got lucky, finding that 87 bed. I think since it was a 2wd, and had a cap on it, it stayed clean. Myself and two friends recently bought a 79 2wd with a blown motor. We all took what we needed, and paid only $100 each. The truck had a rebuilt trans that one friend wanted, I got a ton of little parts, and my other buddy took the doors from it. I got well over $500 in parts, for my $100. ~Chuck www.chuckschevytruckpages.com

I recently bought a project. 77 4×4 that needs a fair share of body work. The bed is a mess looking more like a used target for shot guns. So I’m looking about in the salvage yards for used parts, But before I do I would like to know a top price since I have no knowlege in the area. I need a bed for a 77 chevy full size 4×4 with duel tanks (gas filler on each side). I imagine any that I find will probably be from rough to fair condition.
