Uniqe Problem

Question:

What about your exhaust?  Wouldn’t you have a tough time if your truck cut off in 6 feet of water?  Would you be able to start your truck with the tailpipes fully submerged?  How about getting some stacks in case that happened? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I am completely re-doing a 1990 GMC K2500 4×4 Ext. cab.  I am going to > replace the dash with a 1998 dash.  I was wondering if anyone had done this > and had advice/horror stories about the conversion.  I am also looking for a > supplier for the new dash(other than the dealer of course!).  The second > issue I am having trouble with is finding a unique part.  I want to put a > snorkel on the truck like on the Hummers and on some special purpose > vehicles(the Suburban in the movie Volcano is one I remember)–they attach > to the engine air-intake and run out the hood or fender and up the window > frame.  Anyway, I know this is possible, I just can’t find a place to buy > the snorkel.  I have found some for other makes, but not my truck.  If it > comes down to it, I will have to make one or convert another model.  I was > just hoping on finding one specifically designed for my truck.  And, lastly, > I am looking for suggestions on a 4-5" suspension lift.  My truck is an ext. > cab long bed and I have heard that the carrier bearing causes problems with > some kits.  Thanks in advance to anyone that responds!  You can e-mail this > Brandon

Make sure that the rest of the vehicle is waterproof when you go and use your snorkel !!!! When I went for a ride some years ago in a LandRover fittet with such a device, my air intake was fine, but the electrics packed up !! Zasgar Brandon M. : I am completely re-doing a 1990 GMC K2500 4×4 Ext. cab.  I am going to : replace the dash with a 1998 dash.  I was wondering if anyone had done this : and had advice/horror stories about the conversion.  I am also looking for a : supplier for the new dash(other than the dealer of course!).  The second : issue I am having trouble with is finding a unique part. Ahh, you are looking in the wrong places. Many many stores, local to you and I, carry all the parts you’d need to do this. Go to your local hardware or home improvement store and ask about that magical new thing called "PVC pipe". Seriously, the Hummer people do it all the time with a length of PVC and some hose clamps and stuff; umm, didn’t Eddie Runner do it? root…. root… http://www.tx4×4.com/hummod.html You’d need to plumb your air intake to the edge of the hood, and PVC isn’t so good for hot environs as found under your hood. However, heater ducting is also cheap… and is found in that self-same hardware store ;-) Anyway, just a thought. You’d be surprised at how many obscure impossible-to-find parts can be fabricated from stuff you find in the back of your local Ace or Home Despot. I needed a coupla slots to hold the tailgate cables on my Blazer in place when the tailgate closes; old ones were rusted on, don’t even want to know what GM would get for them. I am completely re-doing a 1990 GMC K2500 4×4 Ext. cab.  I am going to replace the dash with a 1998 dash.  I was wondering if anyone had done this and had advice/horror stories about the conversion.  I am also looking for a supplier for the new dash(other than the dealer of course!).  The second issue I am having trouble with is finding a unique part.  I want to put a snorkel on the truck like on the Hummers and on some special purpose vehicles(the Suburban in the movie Volcano is one I remember)–they attach to the engine air-intake and run out the hood or fender and up the window frame.  Anyway, I know this is possible, I just can’t find a place to buy the snorkel.  I have found some for other makes, but not my truck.  If it comes down to it, I will have to make one or convert another model.  I was just hoping on finding one specifically designed for my truck.  And, lastly, I am looking for suggestions on a 4-5" suspension lift.  My truck is an ext. cab long bed and I have heard that the carrier bearing causes problems with some kits.  Thanks in advance to anyone that responds!  You can e-mail this Brandon

Thanks for the response.  I have thought of PVC as well as some other types of "plastic" pipe, but the problem with that(other than rather shoddy looks) is that there are the accordion type boots that go through either the hood or the fender and all the connectors etc.  I would just much rather find an actual product designed specifically for this application.  As I said in the original post, if I don’t find it, I will have to fabricate it myself, but I would prefer not to.  I have enough time to spend on everything else! Thanks again for the response!
