Tire size with larger wheels '92 s-10 blazer

Question:

I have the 1985 K5 Blazer with a 6.2 diesel with some mods to it. It is awesome in power, torque, speed, acceleration, and milage. About 18-24 mpg. You may be able to find one with low miles, the original of mine went out and I put one in that was exact from a suburban that only had about 25,000 miles on it. I wouldn’t go with a manual tranny though. Go with an automatic like the R700. You will have a lot to do and change all fuel lines and the tank as well.It is easier to go from diesel to gas, but not nexcessarily to opposite. Good luck.

Rich,    I really cannot tell you the exact size because I run a 4×4 van from 78′. My Dad however runs a LT 235×75 with a 16" tires in his stock 98′ Dodge Dakota, he also had a 91′ S-10 and he could run a 30.5x"x9.5"x15 and still could of went one size up. I myself like the BFG A/T’s as I get around 50-55,000 miles before I need new ones. They do a great job in snow and exceptionally well in ice. My Dad did not want to pay the price for BFG’s so he went to Pep Boys and picked up a set of their Futura Dakota’s which has the same tread pattern as the BFG’s and he really likes them. We live in Reno, and when we get snow here in the City it is usually only a few inches. We however go to the mountains and play and the tires have got me through 3 feet of snow. I hope this may help. Regards, Chuck 78′ Chevy 1 Ton 4X4 Van

A big thanks to you guys for helping me with my question about tires. As you’ve no doubt guessed, 4×4’s are not my area of expertise. And, seeing some of the questions and responses that have been posted here, I can see that I have a great deal to learn.  It is very gratifying to know that there is a forum where I can come to get answers when I need them, and to know that so many people are willing to help.    Again, My Thanks  Richard Lynch "You can have peace. Or you can have freedom.  Don’t ever count on having both at once"

Response:

The 235/75R15s are stock. 30" tall tires will fit without any trouble. 31"s may fit if you’re lucky. Some people swear that they fit on their bone stock trucks, others (like myself) have tried and they don’t clear the back of the front fenders.

Well sorry i could not be any more help on sizes but i have Toyo Open Country ATs on my Grand Cherokee now and they are great tires. Not the best in mud but sand/beach they are good. — Bruce 99 White WJ 4×4 Select Trac 89 YJ 03 Liberty Ltd L.O.S.T #000256 90 XJ6 Sovereign

Thanks, Bruce, for your reply to my post about tire size.  I guess what I’m looking for is a recommendation of a specific size tire to put on my 16×7.5 wheels. I don’t do any off road driving, the most I do is some unpaved dirt or sand roads in the Jersey Pine Barrens.  I need a tire that will wear and handle well on highways at highway speeds 55-65 mph and be usable as an all weather tire, especially for snow.  Gentlemen, I could use your assistance. I have a ‘92 s-10 blazer 4×4 w/auto trans that I want to put larger wheels and tires on.  I have a set (4) of 16×7.5 wheels that I want to use but the local tire people are at a loss as to what tires to put on them, that will still allow me to turn the steering wheel from stop to stop without interference. I don’t want to do a full lift as I don’t have that kind of money, just want larger tires to give me a fighting chance the next time we get 21 inches of snow, and my wife gets stuck at work for 40 hours. Response:

Well you could cut out the fenders, or do a home made body lift.
