stainless steel or aluminized
Question:
I have a 2000 Chevy C 2500 (old body style) with the 5.7L V8 and I was thinking about putting dual exhaust on my truck. I was wondering what would be better a stainless steel or a aluminized exhaust? And with will last the longest? I was thinking on putting on a flowmaster 50 series or a gibson.
Response:
Most definitely the stainless. Not just because it resists corrosion, but it also natuarly handles a higher temperature. Yoda

Response:
Stainless will outlast aluminized by a long shot…..but I hope you have a deep wallet…. Flowmaster and Gibson both sound good….my personal preference on sound would be Flowmaster..

I have a ‘91 GMC 3/4 ton 4×4 that’s extensively modified.A year or two after I bought it,I got a Flowmaster muffler (steel),which rotted out after a couple of years.I now have a stainless steel cat-back system by Gibson. Also I have Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers and Y-pipe that are ceramic coated.I haven’t had any problems with it yet. With S.S. it should last a life time. With a S.S. muffler though, the sound will stay pretty much the same over its life, compared with the aluminized muffler. As for running straight pipes over a muffler,a muffler is better.Either Flowmaster,Gibson or some others produce a scavenging effect or a negative pressure which helps to draw out the expelled gases(exhaust). The choice is yours, stainless steel does cost a lot more but it lasts a lot longer too,and it looks good to. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I have a 2000 Chevy C 2500 (old body style) with the 5.7L V8 and I was > thinking about putting dual exhaust on my truck. Response:
SS is costly, aluminized is good. I installed Alum. on a 1970 El Camino and after 5 years is was still in good shape, and that’s in a rust belt state. Watch out for the stainless mufflers. Auto parts store here was selling them till the found out that only the outside was SS, the inners were regular steel and rotted away long before the shell.
