Prices ! ! !
Question:
I just paid $5000 for my 1983 Chevy K-10. It has a 2" lift and 33" BFG tires. Bed in great shape, and only a couple small dents. Paint is still good. It sounds high, but the guy just rebuilt the engine and tranny, and the tires and rims had less than 1000 miles wear on them. If you have a problem with the asking price, just take it to the bank and get them to appraise it. They can help you negotiate with the owner as well… Keith – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’ve been looking around for a late 70’s to an mid 80’s Chevy or GMC p/u > 4×4. If the seller likes his vehicle more than you do, you won’t pay his price, no sale. If you like it more than the seller then you pay him a price he will take, sale. If all the vehicles in a class are more than you are willing to pay, then you should look a different vehicle type or rethink what you are willing to pay. The asking price is usually a good indicator of the market rate for that vehicle. If the prices are too high, they won’t sell and the prices come down. If they sell, the prices stay high. In general, if you don’t like the price, don’t buy it. I for one, would like to have an old Jaguar XKE, I would like to pay $4- 5K for it. The going price is $20K and up for a good car. So I don’t buy one. But, I’m not complaining about it, that’s the way it is with every thing I don’t buy. The price is more than I want to spend. With everything I do buy the price is acceptable. I’m finding prces like $3000 to $6000 I was expecting : 2000-2500…. What is up whith this?? I don’t see how 3000 is that different from 2500… but anyway. Trucks don’t devalue as quickly as cars; heck, SUV’s seem to INCREASE — apparently in some places (like here in California) a three to five year old Suburban sells for MORE, used, than it cost new. Somehting about the depreciation being less than inflation — I realise you can’t compare 1995 dollars to 1999 dollars.
Anyway, depreciation isn’t as great on trucks. Also, SUV’s and 4×4’s are "trendy" in many urban areas; here in California, for instance, you wouldn’t BELIEVE what people in, say, San Francisco want for their trucks. But if you’re willing to drive an hour or so, in the outlying areas prices tend to get reasonable
