O2 sensor kinda long
Question:
for those interested, the O2 sensor was bad and the "real" problem was the fuel pump relay. I changed the relay 1st and the stalling problem quit. Then I installed an O2 sensor because of the strange readings from the scan tool. The new one worked much better and smoothed out the idle. Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
Response:
The O2 sensor sounds good on something with that many miles. Even if it is not the problem when you do fix it you get a couple miles per gallon better. I have helped a guy at work that had intermittent stalling problems after his Ford warmed up and after replacing the O2 sensor it went away. Kenny

Hi. I’m having a little trouble with an intermittent stall at idle and highway speeds. After the stall, it is a hard start. It’s a 91 K1500 GMC with 121K miles. It gave a code 42 (EST problem) but did this only twice. It doesn’t always give this code. I changed out the EST distributor module and the pickup coil in the distributor. Still did it. Took it to Mr. Goodwrench and he shrugged his shoulders and said that will be $55. When I jumped in the truck in front of the tech, it would not start. He looked at the TBI and didn’t see any gas so said it’s the pump. Well I guess I needed the pump changing experience and did so. I can’t find any connectors that look bad or were popped loose. I don’t have a terminal tool to check under the weather heads but will soon. I bought a scan tool (you can tell I’m really at my wits end). Anyways, I captured data until it died. The O2 sensor was jumping around from 888 to 227 mVolts and the rich flag was high at the time of stalling as well as the O2 sensor was at 849 mVolts. Since I’ve never seen what an O2 sensor looks like in a functioning car, I don’t know. I plan on changing the O2 sensor and fuel pump relay anyways. The truck usually does this right after it’s started from a hot condition. It dies, then has a hard start. Not always though as I was cruising about 70 last night and it died. Strange. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t have any technicians local that will put out the effort to fix it.Thanks.
