New Q-Jet Divorced Choke

Question:

Q-JET SERIES CARBURETOR – 4MV – 1974-78   For 1974-78 350-454 Chevy/GMC trucks and cars with a divorced style choke. Compatible with EGR. Main Jet: .069; Metering Rods: Primary-36B, Secondary-DR.   a.. 750 cfm with divorced choke #1902 Can anyone tell me how the Divorced choke works?  What is the S/B Chevy Performer manifolds (divorced choke) #1931 Choke Kit??  What installs into the intake manifold and will this choke still FULLY work with blocked off Exhaust Crossovers? thanks

Response:

As I said in the other post, it is a dashpot system.  That means it works off vacuum.  Nothing gets installed down in the intake, so there is no need for the heat cross over.  When there is no vacuum, hence the engine is not running then it will close down some, and close the rest of the way if you depress the accelerator pedal.  The divorce choke kit, is a block off plate that covers up the hot air choke passage on the top passenger side of the intake. Grease

Response:

Divorced choke is a rod connected to thermostsatic in spring in the intake manifold which is  connected to heat crossover passage, real old stuff now, tthat type carb is really outdated. SB chevy is the venerable 265-350 cu.in. small block chev v8. The choke will not shut off with blocked cross overs.

Ok….my Engine is apart…the intake is off…The crossovers in the intake are pretty clean now, as I had to ice pick the carbon out…BUT my problem is the Heads…the driver side exhaust crossover is not all plugged up, but the passenger side(the side I need to work)  Is COMPLETELY plugged up…my question is what is the easiest way to get the carbon out without removing the heads…where does that crossover port go to in the head? thanks – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Divorced choke is a rod connected to thermostsatic in spring in the intake > manifold which is  connected to heat crossover passage, real old stuff now, > tthat type carb is really outdated.
