Jim, I am usually reluctant to give personal advice but I’ll make an exception here as you sound like a sincere guy with good intentions whose "dream project" has turned into a "money toilet" and has begun to affect your personal life. The bottom line: SELL IT NOW! Take whatever you can get. Yes, you are going to lose most of your "investment" but if you sink more money into it, you are going to lose that too. After you get a job, buy the truck you want, not a project truck but a clean used or new truck. I suppose your probably thinking, "well, it’s easy for him to say". Actually it is easy for me to say because when I was a kid, many years ago, I went down the same road. It was hard for me to give up on my "dream project" too but after all was said and done, I realized that the freedom from all the drama was worth more to me than continuing to pour good money after bad into a project with no end in sight. It’s a tough choice but think it over. Good luck! I bought a gmc truck 3 months ago, it was in a fire, But the body was untouched, I replaced  Winshield, wiring harnesses, interior, dash, With an old truck I own, "same year, but chev"  The truck caught on fire from a gas fire under the hood from the fuel line into the carb.      The fire ate into the truck from the A/C condenser box on the fire wall, And destroyed the interior. The truck is from KY. No rust, and no sagging doors, brand new suspension, lift kit, and big tires / rims, Almost a Dream for me.. The 4 wheel drive was the kicker, So my old truck had a weak motor and Rather than replace it, I would scrap the fine truck for a 4×4.   I paid $1200  for truck.  Brought it and my old chev to a friends shop, where he did the wiring, and got some basic rebuilding done, I finished the rest to get it on the road in a week.. The glass was on the way to be put in, I started the engine… It ran real good, when….. Bang!  a piston blew.       The carb got rplaced in the rebuilding prosses W/holley 650,elctric choke.  my "friend" left the intake open for a day or two, and even moved truck in and out of shop W/it open. Something fell in while he wasnt looking…. and boom.  He swears nothing coulda gone in, but I know better.                            I bought a new in the crate 4blt main 350  GM motor, for $1600, And paid $1500 more to put it in at the Dealership. They do the work in 4 Days, "trying to bill me for tons of extra’s and hours" and the truck wouldnt go 30 mph down the road….  spark plugs werent in tight, anifreeze leaks, The seal was out of dipstick for the tranny, they replaced it, but left the tranny empty.. I relized when tranny slipped a day later.. a few more trips back to them…  and had the carb, purchased as a rebuilt, rebuilt again.. brass floats installed, tuned… and it still doesnt work right for 150 extra$$    may put edelbrock on it soon…             Then yesterday it flooded out, and wouldnt start. I took the spark plugs out and found them to be soaked with gas and carbon from the carb running rich, Once replaced the truck fired right up, but… in the meantime, the truck lost 3 qt. of oil in 2 k. miles, I was convinced this was not a "break in " thing.  And  The oil pressure guage dropped to 0  Cause no oil I thought… Hit the first jiffy oil in town, had it changed, and the truck didnt hit over 30 # of pressure, normally ran 60 on start, 45-60 running at 1500 rpm. jiffy told me oil was leaking out of the main rear seal, "ALOT"  cause flooding the motor got the oil mixed with gas, thus thinned it out to leak faster,  Turns out the gauge tube was leaking, and everything was fine…  But, running low on oil 2,3 times may affect the life of my motor, I am already risking my warrenty by using a highrise intake"Holley Dominator 2" Headers, Straightpipes, "and you thing a dealership should work on a vehical without safty features"  It was  a burnt up thing when they first saw it, A true work of Truck now…W/a bad tranny…… and a running rich carb…. I have spent almost $5500 restoring this, first figure was $2500 And tranny and carb may add $1000 Will the tranny of a 2wheel drive work for a 4 wheel drive? can tranny tail ends be exchanged with 4×4 ones?, The guy I bought it from Paid $5000 for it 2 months befor it burnt… it Could be worth it cause I plan to use it awhile… but  driving in new trucks while they fixed my old rino-bucket, may have changed me…. lol      Well  my Story is’nt over yet… Have to go on from here…   no $$ to go on, one little breakdown will be my demise……  tranny doesnt shift very good, slipps in-between gears, and runs in first  too long.  What would you do….  And spending to much time on truck, I lost my good paying job……. and am living with girlfriend who… is not happy paying my way….   Cant get truck fixed good now… is there a temporary solution? can I extend what is left in my tranny for a month?, oh, and the gas this thing sucks…. wow, I fill up @17gallons = about 27 dollars averaged per fill,  And I get 100 miles to the tankfull you do the math, I cant bear performance… but will the domonator highrise interfear W/new apreateated……. Thank you in advance,   Jim  S                   WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
