Wow, looks like they replaced some of the same parts the second time as they did the first. Did you say the same place did both jobs??. Some of those parts, like the compressor could be warrented. It looks like they did all the right things the first time. The only thing I can think of that could go wrong is not evacuating the system completely, and flushing any contaninants out. Any metal particals from the original compressor going bad, can still be in the system. This is why you need to evac system completly, and flush entire system. Hope it works ok now. I too have a 94 ‘burb. The only system worse than the AC is the brakes. At 60K the A/C compressor started clunking severely and then seized causing me to have to replace it. At 100K, it’s begining to clunk again so I suspect a failure is in progress. I think you should find a new dealer or A/C specialist. R2ing the compressor and receiver/dryer plus servicing the system with R134 and oil should cost about $600 or so.

I have a 94 Chev Suburban. I had to replace the complete A/C system at 80,000 miles in Aug/Sep of 1998. Now at 115,000, its gone out again. Both times the dealer has charged over $1,000 to fix. Is this common? Any remedy? Causes? The local service dealer says he can only warrant parts for 12 months…

No way is this common. I think you have a R134A system, if not let me know. What did the dealer replace for the $1000 ?. I have a 1988 GMC Suburban, and I did the R134A retrofit in 1996 w/ 100,000 miles of the truck. It now has 140,000 miles and blows cold as ever. Sounds like you either got some bad parts durring the replacement, or bad service. Rob H Got questions? Get answers over the phone at Keen.com. Up to 100 minutes free! http://www.keen.com
