gas petal sticking

Question:

help my gas petal is sticking when i first push on it, it sticks causing me to push harder then when it breaks free the truck lunges forward, then its ok as long as i keep it from comming all the way up again so at stop lights and stop signs i have break it loose , not real hard but just enough to be a pain in the ass, will some wd40 do the trick, where do i spray it inside or under the hood? your help would be appreciated , thanks

Take it to the dealer…they’ll change the throttle body.  There was a problem with the clearence between the throttle blade and the bore. Big Daddy ICQ#6342575      AOLinst messenger "WallyC1951" ASE Master Auto Technician Chevrolet Certified Master Tech.

Big Daddy: my roommate has been saying that his 91 c1500 w/350tbi has had a sticky throttle lately.  is this truck affected by the "clearance problem" or more likely just the cable? thanks. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->help >my gas petal is sticking when i first push on it, it sticks causing me to >push harder then when it breaks free the truck lunges forward, then its ok >as long as i keep it from comming all the way up again so at stop lights and >stop signs i have break it loose , not real hard but just enough to be a >pain in the ass, >will some wd40 do the trick, where do i spray it inside or under the hood? >your help would be appreciated , thanks > Take it to the dealer…they’ll change the throttle body.  There was a > problem with the clearence between the throttle blade and the bore. > Big Daddy > ICQ#6342575      AOLinst messenger "WallyC1951" > ASE Master Auto Technician > Chevrolet Certified Master Tech.

The clearance problem was on 1999 and newer trucks, could just be something gumming up the TB or cable… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Big Daddy: > my roommate has been saying that his 91 c1500 w/350tbi has had a sticky throttle > lately.  is this truck affected by the "clearance problem" or more likely just > the cable? thanks. > >help > >my gas petal is sticking when i first push on it, it sticks causing me to > >push harder then when it breaks free the truck lunges forward, then its ok > >as long as i keep it from comming all the way up again so at stop lights and > >stop signs i have break it loose , not real hard but just enough to be a > >pain in the ass, > >will some wd40 do the trick, where do i spray it inside or under the hood? > >your help would be appreciated , thanks > Take it to the dealer…they’ll change the throttle body.  There was a > problem with the clearence between the throttle blade and the bore. > Big Daddy > ICQ#6342575      AOLinst messenger "WallyC1951" > ASE Master Auto Technician > Chevrolet Certified Master Tech.

yup, what he said…the TBI unit is a whole different beast, although, if someone was fooling with the throttle stop screw, they could create the same problem on the TBI unit.  Never seen it happen to an un-molested TBI unit, however. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Big Daddy: > my roommate has been saying that his 91 c1500 w/350tbi has had a sticky throttle > lately.  is this truck affected by the "clearance problem" or more likely just > the cable? thanks. > > >help > > >my gas petal is sticking when i first push on it, it sticks causing me to > > >push harder then when it breaks free the truck lunges forward, then its ok > > >as long as i keep it from comming all the way up again so at stop lights and > > >stop signs i have break it loose , not real hard but just enough to be a > > >pain in the ass, > > >will some wd40 do the trick, where do i spray it inside or under the hood? > > >your help would be appreciated , thanks > > Take it to the dealer…they’ll change the throttle body.  There was a > > problem with the clearence between the throttle blade and the bore. > > Big Daddy > > ICQ#6342575      AOLinst messenger "WallyC1951" > > ASE Master Auto Technician > > Chevrolet Certified Master Tech. >– >Reach me by ICQ. Possible, but i would check your throttle cable.

I just replaced my tbi on my 88 gmc 350 with 305,000 miles …..throttle shaft had so much play in it …made the throttle blades catch in the bores of the tbi.  All is well now….
