Here’s a report conducted by the Toyota 4×4 Mailing List Investigative Team (T4MLIT) that was performed in response to this article: http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4×4/Docs/Dateline.shtml

It’s kinda god’s way of culling the herd. You can’t stop the stupid from breeding, but you can sell them SUV’s. You see them every morning flying down the ice covered freeway at 80 mph in their ABS, Traction Controlled Machine, talking on their cell phones. They are apparently oblivious to the danger. It’s kinda like watching Wild Kingdom, man that Gazelle can boogie. You know right from the start that the gazelle is doomed. He can run, but he has no brain. The Lion knows this, so he knows sooner or later he’s getting fed. I wonder what Darwin would think about this theory. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Saw a *very* enlightening Frontline show last evening regarding the > history and evolution of the SUV. Yes, very interesting. It ought to be a real eye opener for those who argue that less government is better. This is a perfect example of the damage done by the Reagan legacy and of how manufacturers, left on their won, will put money over lives. The main thing is to drive our Explorers SLOWLY and CAREFULLY! Who? The lions, the gazelles or the nimrods who can afford to buy an SUV and think that they therefore inherently know how to drive one? 4X4 may get you going in snow and ice, but does next to nothing to help you STOP and certainly doesn’t suspend the laws of physics! I see a LOT of 4 wheelers flying down icy roads drinking a latte’ and talking on the phone. Doesn’t really bother me because I know I’ll be passing them soon while they’re spun out in the median or stopped suddenly against an immovable object. Before you go off on a rant, I have 4 Exploders in the fleet, my 2000 XLT is my daily driver and my 2002 XLT will be here next week. Regards, James
