The heavy duty front IFS diffs do use a C-clip on the passenger (long side) shaft. The light duty uses the spring clips. And I agree with you, the binding up is normal for 4×4. On dry pavement, in a hard slow turn, the driveline windup is very noticable. Ian
Response:
I’ve just had the truck (91 -2500) into the shop to replace a broken c-clip inside the diff housing on the passenger side which allowed the shaft to slide out of the diff housing & it is something that is realatively recent as well. The c-clip locks the drive shaft into the diff. Since I got it back, I now find that when in four wheel drive & turn in either direction, the wheels bind really bad. Almost like it’s trying to twist the either wheel off, like they are fighting against each other…….badly. I know that the truck should and does run diferently in four wheel but not like this. The shop where I’ve had it in is at a lose as to what the problem may be & I’m just wondering if anyone has ever encountered this problem or heard of it before & of course what the problem may be. It’s acting like it’s a true full posi front end which makes no sense to me on the front end of a vehicle with wheels that actually turn. Suggestions??
