AT: how to recognize Turbo 350 vs 400

Question:

    Is there any easy way to recognize when the automatic is a 350 vs the heavier duty 400.  I was hoping to find a 400 in a 1/2 ton … how common are they?? … and what years are they likely to span?? TIA …=shAf=  :o)

From what I remember, you can tell by the trans oil pan (assuming its factory!). The TH350 is squarish but has one corner "chopped off". You might try a www search for "how to identify chevy/GM transmissions" or something, I found several good www sites when I was trying to figure out what I had. Turns out I had the TH700R4 in my ‘85 Jimmy.  =)  Hope this helps, J

Rare to find a TH400 in a C/K10 I think. the easiest way to tell them apart is by the oil pan. the 350 is square with one corner cut off.  the 400’s pan looks like the state of texas. . 99 seirra 2500  6.0 liter kx 500 mooor poowwwer
