After market parts & MPG enhancement
Question:
Greetings All One sees many after market brain boxes, filters, modifications that are sold by hyping their abilities to get more bang out of a given amount of fuel (i.e. improve a vehicles MPG or power). What are your experiences with these gadgets & gizmos? I have a high mileage ‘95 Chevy (4 door 4×4) Blazer. Do they actually improve mileage & performance? Just hype? Or somewhere in the middle? In your experience was your investment in these gadgets worth it? Since I am a computer consultant I put on a lot of miles and am looking at ways I can get better mileage (This vehicle does get off of the maintained roads as well especially in fall & winter). Well,I guess with everything there’s good and bad and I’ve found it out.I have found that a K&N air filter, headers with a good free flowing exhaust system, synthetic oil (Torco)in the engine, trans.,transfer case and diff’s all work well.Splitfire platinum plugs,MSD wires and box,Accell coil and the list goes on and on.This is on a ‘91 GMC Extended cab lifted 4×4 truck.Have fun on your toy,I do. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Greetings All > One sees many after market brain boxes, filters, modifications that are > sold by hyping their abilities to get more bang out of a given amount of > fuel (i.e. improve a vehicles MPG or power). > What are your experiences with these gadgets & gizmos? Greetings, Have a ‘99 1500 Sierra . . ext cab, long box. Love the ride. Gearing up to replace the factory tires (GY Wranglers, thankfully). . .they are 245 R16’s. Two questions: 1. If I install a lift kit, will that negatively affect the ride? (Stiffer ride, poorer corner?) 2. If don’t lift it, then I keep the factory wheels and go with the largest tire- which is . . .? Since so many of you have the experience here, I’d like to hear it. ~Mark "A man with experience is never at the mercy of a man with a theory"
